‘Tis the season of giving. Hopefully not the giving of head lice. Remember at this holiday season to not share hats, brushes or ponytails etc. if anyone swipes your child’s hat at school have a spare to wear and pop in their bag for a wash. Call us if you need us we’ll come running 🐎

This period of time can mark my busiest season when I just can’t help everyone. Many are beginning to pack school bags and noticing the scratching isn’t just beach sand and it’s tiny bugs aka head lice. Check your kids now for any red bites and any black bugs some as large as of fruit flies or tiny pin head stuck on eggs ( white, shimmery or brown) pinky width down hair shaft and reach out.

Remember to check hair weekly in summer too. Any scratching needs investigation. Remember to cover heads with a bandana when helmets are being shared ie baseball or rock climbing. Call us for help

Use head and shoulders as part of your bath time routine. Rinse with vinegar. Not scientifically supported but I’ve personally seen untreated nits fall off hairs. If you’ve ever tediously pulled them out, you’d understand that victory ✌️ Shiny hair from vinegar and a less hospitable campground for 🐜

Hey back-to-schoolers.
School head checks coming to a classroom near you soon? Save the time and check your child tonight. Use a desk lamp to point light directly at parted clean hair/scalp. Look about a pinky width down the hair shaft for anything about the size of a pin head glued on that cannot be flicked off. They can range in colour from opaque papery ( old hatched) to shiny brown like a flaxseed( ready to hatch) If you need finger nails to slide it down and it stays right there you may have found nits(s), head lice eggs. If you find multiples like that, it’s likely head lice. Go grab some Nyda from the store and follow the directions and get picking. Many other products don’t seem to be killing 💯

Happy almost spring 🌺 . With winter hat season still very much here remember that nits like it warm and ( white, brown or sparkly) can be in unusual non typical spots ie the bangs and the crown or the head. Watch for intense scratching and check it out

Christmas is a wonderful time of caring and sharing. Sadly head lice is often shared during this time. Be especially diligent to use Head and shoulders shampoo, followed by a vinegar rinse and keep an 👁 for scratching. Check your child’s head weekly for nits. Cool weather is approaching. Pack your child a spare hat and remind them IF someone else takes their hat and puts it on, do not wear it until it’s been washed but they can wear their spare hat. Store hats in their coat sleeve while at school .
