Community Futures Okanagan Similkameen

Community Futures Okanagan Similkameen Community Futures assists the success of new and existing businesses in the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys through business training and business loans.

To learn more, book an appointment with an advisor today. The Community Futures Program was established in 1984 to assist rural communities in the development of strategies for dealing with a changing economic environment. The program is based on the philosophy that local decision-making and local development are the most effective means for communities to shape their future. We believe that provi

ding small businesses with resources leads to job creation and economic growth. Over the past 25 years, B.C. has become a small business economy. Community Futures has played a leading role in that growth by providing financing and small business training. An evaluation of the Community Futures program during the period 2003 to 2008 was completed by the Federal Government using Business Information Numbers and Revenue Canada Data. The results showed that businesses assisted by Community Futures:
Increased employment by 18% compared with businesses not assisted at 10%
Increased revenue by 26% compared with 20% for unassisted businesses. Locally Community Futures has provided:

$26 Million in loan funds to 484 businesses including:
52 Youth owned businesses
28 businesses owned by Entrepreneurs with Disabilities
4 First Nations owned businesses
7 Social Enterprises
Training and start up coaching to 1015 businesses
Diversification of the local economy:
Negotiated new timber harvesting policies between the Provincial Government and small business
Initiated the incorporation of the Okanagan Film Commission
Financed new tourist attractions, including, but not limited to, the Kettle Valley Steam Engine, the Cassabella Princess, adventure golf businesses in both Penticton and Osoyoos
Set up the Coquihalla Tourist Information Centre at the opening of the Connector Highway
Supported the wine industry through financing and project funding
Supported the high tech industry through financing the Okanagan Regional Innovation Centre and businesses
Financed the development of a business management degree program through Okanagan University College

Thanks for all you do Kin and Folk Restaurant. We see you and hope folks will continue supporting you and other local businesses 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️

From our family to yours. ❤️We wanted to pop on here, say hi, and send a whole lot of love to our community right now.

To our regulars who continue to walk through our doors, our friends who share our posts and tell people to come see us, and everyone who continues to rally around small local businesses…thank you! It means more than you probably realize.

And to everyone impacted by the Summerland fires, we are sending you the biggest hug. Our hearts are with the families, farmers, businesses and everyone in our community navigating so much uncertainty right now.

For those of you who haven’t met us yet, this is us. We really are the family (Kin) and the friends (Folk) behind Kin & Folk. ❤️( Mack, Gabriella, Dani and Zac)

We feel incredibly lucky to call the Okanagan home, to raise our kids here, to operate our restaurants here, and to be surrounded by a community that continues to show up for one another when it matters most.

Summer and tourism have such a huge impact on small businesses like ours and so many others throughout the Okanagan. Right now, showing up locally matters so much. Eat at your favourite places. Buy Okanagan fruit and veggies directly from our farmers and fruit stands. Visit a winery, cidery or brewery. Grab a coffee. Shop at a small business every chance you get. Make a donation if you’re able. Share a local business with a friend. Check in on your neighbours.

There are so many small ways we can keep showing up for each other, and together they make a really big difference.

A little hello, a huge thank you, and a whole lot of love from our family to yours.

Feel like you are climbing a mountain? Lyndie Hill from Hoodoo Adventure Company has some very timely words of wisdom that feel a bit like, well, a big hug 🤗🤗🤗 Thank you for your leadership 🙏🏻

⛰️💚 TO THE BUSINESS OWNERS CLIMBING A MOUNTAIN RIGHT NOW...

Being brave enough to start a business is a little like being brave enough to climb a mountain.

You can have the map. The compass. All the right gear. You can train, prepare and plan your route.

But you still don't know what the weather will do.

You don't know when your back will ache, when the trail will disappear beneath your feet, or whether you'll ever actually reach the top.

So you put one foot in front of the other.

I've been on this mountain more times than I would like to count. I've learned a lot of lessons along the way, but perhaps one of the biggest has been compassion.

Because I see you, fellow business owners.

I see you cleaning the windows because there aren't enough customers to keep you busy.

I see you staring at spreadsheets, moving numbers around, trying to figure out how to make payroll and rent.

I see you lying awake wondering what else you can cut, change, create or try.

I see the worry behind the smile you give the customer who does walk through your door.

I'd love to tell you I've been here before and that someone is going to ride in on a white horse and save the day.

I can't.

Sometimes there isn't a shortcut off the mountain.

Sometimes all we can do is dig a little deeper, take the next step, and remind each other that doing something this uncertain takes an incredible amount of courage.

So if you're struggling right now, I see you.

It's hard.

And you are an incredibly brave adventurer.

Our communities need the people willing to dream something into existence. The little shops, restaurants, makers, guides, growers, creators and entrepreneurs who make the places we live feel like ours.

We need you.

And if the mountain feels particularly steep right now, I'm here if you need someone climbing beside you. 💚

SOS Wildfire Response Fund @ www cfso.net

Our hearts are breaking as fires ravage Summerland. So many people have lost their homes and treasures despite the best efforts of first responders.

Generous residents have already reached out asking how they can help so we have set up the South Okanagan Similkameen Wildfire Response Fund.

Just like when floods destroyed much of Princeton, donations to this fund will go directly to helping victims of the fires.

Please donate today to support our neighbours. Click here to donate and please share the link www.cfso.net
