During shutdown preventative testing, our winding analyzer detected a potential short to ground. Not a dead short, but damaged insulation. It was determined that it wasn't in the motor winding but in the cable between the soft starter and the motor.
The customer was informed, but chose not to go any further.
A couple days after start up we got called back to diagnose a soft starter fault. But instead, found the now shorted to ground cable in a conduit filled with water.
PM's can be invaluable to preventing downtime during operation.

After suffering a pump failure earlier this year, our customer hired us to remove their submersible pump from this pond. We removed it, rebuilt it, installed and commissioned it, but didn't start recording early enough to get the water first coming down the creek.
Oh well... The customer was happy to have their water feature running again before the end of the nice weather.
