How long does coffee lasts?

****Whole Coffee Beans****
Unopened, sealed packages of roasted coffee beans stored at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and light can last for a few weeks to several months or even years until their best by date. Once opened, coffee beans remain fresh for 1-3 weeks. Transfer them to a dry, airtight container to maintain freshness. You can also freeze coffee beans in sealed containers for 3-4 months.

****Ground Coffee****
Ground coffee follows similar guidelines as whole beans. An unopened package of ground coffee can last for a few weeks to several months. Once opened, ground coffee stays fresh for 1-2 weeks if stored properly in an airtight container at room temperature. Freezing ground coffee is possible, but it may affect method.

How do you store ground coffee?

Storing ground coffee properly is essential to maintain its freshness and flavor. Here are some tips for storing ground coffee!

------------------------------------------------
1. Use an airtight container to keep your ground coffee. A glass jar with a tight-fitting lid or a vacuum-sealed bag works well.

2. Sunlight can degrade the flavor of coffee. Store it in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.

3. If you want to store ground coffee for an extended period, consider freezing it. Place the coffee in a sealed bag or container before freezing.

4. For the best flavor, grind your coffee just before brewing. Ground coffee loses its freshness more quickly than whole beans.

How to tell if coffee has gone bad?

How do you tell when coffee goes bad? People tend to think that coffee can be stored for a long time, but in facet, it can go bad. Coffee oxidizes from the time the bag is opened, exposed to moisture, and the beans and powder gradually lose their freshness. I want to share here about how to tell if coffee is old and rancid.

If your ground coffee has lost its distinct smell or smells musty, it’s a telltale sign that it has gone stale. Additionally, stale ground coffee tends to have a flat and muted flavor. If your brewed coffee lacks the usual richness and complexity, it’s a sign that your ground coffee may be past its prime. As it goes bad, the color becomes significantly darker and murky. Oils may begin separating on the surface, looking like rainbow patterns. Mold or any similar growth on the coffee is another clear indication of it going bad.

Many of you may be growing plants at home. Why not feed your plants with used coffee beans this year?

Coffee contains several key elements—nitrogen, calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, and chromium—that are beneficial for plant growth.
Since plants absorb nutrients from soil, adding coffee grounds as a fertilizer is a great way to help your plants stay healthy and nutrient dense.

If you are making compost from food scraps at home, try mixing coffee beans here.

Also, you can mix water and used coffee beans to make a fertilizer solution.

It is also effective for plants on acidic soils too!

Honey Lavender Latte 🪻

Make fancy coffee at home! This Lavender Latte is made with an easy vanilla honey lavender coffee creamer. Serve it hot or iced, and store leftover lavender creamer in the fridge for days.

I'm sure that you will love the aroma and flavor that lavender gives to drinks, and it's so fun to make your own fancy lattes at home!

Scented with lavender without tasting artificial!
Easy to store in the fridge for up to 3 days, so feel free to make a double batch.

Note: This recipe makes about 2 cups of creamer

Ingredients:
2 cups Milk (any kind, vegan or cow's)
1 tablespoon Dried Lavender Flower Buds (make sure to use food-safe lavender)
3 tablespoons Honey (or use agave syrup for a vegan option)
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
2 shots Espresso (6 oz)

Directions
1. Make the coffee creamer: Combine the milk and lavender in a 2-quart saucepan. Heat over medium heat until simmer, and continue to simmer for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
2. Remove from heat, add the honey and vanilla, and stir well to dissolve the honey. Let cool for a few minutes so it is not boiling hot.
3: Carefully strain the milk though a mesh strainer into another heat-safe container.
4: Pour a shot of espresso in a mug.
5: Froth your lavender creamer: Use a milk frother (a wand or an electric milk frother) to froth the milk. Pour ½ cup of the hot coffee creamer over the espresso, then add a few tablespoons of the frothy milk on top. Enjoy!

Deodorize the whole house with coffee grounds!

You can reuse your coffee grounds as odor neutralizer!
It's environmentally friendly.

Coffee is a great alternative to chemicals that neutralizes odors, since it contains nitrogen, which helps absorb odors from the air.

After you brew your favorite coffee grounds, spread it on the flat plate and dry it for a day.
After drying, put some coffee grounds in a jar or wrap it with a cloth, put it in your garbage can, fridge, shoes, or anywhere that has an odor and the coffee grounds will neutralize it.

Did you know that coffee can be used to repel insects?
The caffeine and other compounds in coffee deters insects away. It might even help deter fleas away from your pets. You can sprinkle coffee grounds around areas you want to be insect free, such as a patio, deck, or your plants!

What pairs well with coffee?

Pairing coffee with banana nut bread offers a delightful and comforting combination.

This sweet bread staple goes amazingly well with Kenyan blend or Ethiopian coffees. You can even pair your banana bread with a caramel or hazelnut-flavored coffee for extra indulgence!

Consider the time of day and the occasion when choosing the coffee and food pairings. Lighter options might be preferred for breakfast, while heavier combinations can work for dinner.

Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony
-
Did you know that coffee in Ethiopia isn't just a drink? Coffee is an essential component of Ethiopian culture and society. Being invited for coffee in Ethiopian culture is considered a symbol of friendship, respect, and great hospitality.

Alongside the coffee, guests may enjoy snacks such as popcorn, peanuts, or roasted barley.
Popcorn is usually flavored with sugar, butter, and spices like cinnamon or cardamon.
Many Ethiopians prefer to drink their coffee black with a small spoon of sugar. Interesting enough it can also be drunk with salt, milk or butter.

A taste expert believes that combining similar or complementary flavors emphasizes each flavor. Combining sweet, sugary coffee with peanuts or salty coffee with popcorn makes for a fantastic flavor combination.
