MLS - Vancouver remains 1st in the Western conference with Toronto staying at 13th and Montreal stayed at 11th in the Eastern conference. CFL - still early with just week 2 complete. FIFA - Canada tied their 1st game in Pool B.

Last Sunday night, FF Danielle led an FR practice for some of our FFs.

Tues night’s practice was prep work for our Open House. Lots of cleaning and equipment prep

On Thurs, some of our new FFs were getting some extra training on SCBA and ventilation. Thanks go to FFs Wade and Daryl in leading the way.

On Sat, after a quick breakfast, Duty Crew Delta started the way for the Open House. The Open House went from 1000 - 1400. A very warm day that people visiting from start to finish. Though attendance was lighter than years before, the enthusiasm was everywhere. Thanks to all, young and old, that came by not just for all the displays, interactive activities, but for the free burger or hotdogs. This year we had various activities from spraying water (at targets), truck displays, fire extinguisher practicing, fire prevention, wildland display, and Kids Korner (looks like young and old as well…. LOL). Big shout out for our guest presenters - Sproat Lake Marine Patrol, Emergency Support Services (ESS), and FireSmart. And yes, we even had some 4 legged visitors.

Tues night’s practice was wildland training. A busy evening on Ash Main as 2 x attack teams and 1 x water supply team fought a “fire”.

On Sat, after a quick breakfast, Duty Crew Charlie was busy with a few tasks. Started with rolling up the wildland hose from Tues and then putting it back from whence it came (LOL), filling and fueling vehicles as required, and even getting some driving in.

On Fri and Sat, SLFD hosted an Air Brakes course at Hall 3. FFs from Beaver Creek and Cherry Creek attended along the 7 FFs we had on the course. Congrats all as this is a big step in their firefighting training.

Tues night’s practice hall night. A regular monthly check of equipment, large and small. Making sure inventories are correct, vehicles are fueled and ready for the next call, and keeping care of the infrastructure in our care. A good evening.

Tues night’s practice had a couple of events happening at the training site. One group had a live fire going in the burn building. The others were busy with vehicle accidents. A busy night for all.

On Sat, after a quick breakfast, Duty Crew Alpha was busy with some wildland training at Hall 1 and 2. This included racking the trucks, going to Hall 1 to practice prep and go tactics and then over to Hall 2 to practice anchor and hold. Definitions for the two tactics - "Prep and Go" in wildland firefighting refers to a tactic where firefighters prepare a structure for defense and then evacuate if conditions become too dangerous. This approach is used when immediate action is needed to protect lives and property from advancing fires.” "Anchor and hold" refers to a firefighting strategy where firefighters establish a secure starting point (anchor) to begin constructing firelines and then maintain control over that area (hold) to prevent the fire from spreading.** This method is crucial for ensuring safety and effective fire suppression.”

We’ve had some new people join the department - a big welcome to Tony, John, Matt, and Hanna (junior).

Tues night’s practice had a couple of training evens happening. Inside Hall 3, FF Wade was teaching Traffic Control. An important lesson to keep FFs safe while on various road scenes. Outside, the remainder were busy with wildland setups and use of various tools, pumps, and hoses.

On Sat, after a quick breakfast, Duty Crew Delta was busy with training and familiarization of T44. They also put all the forestry hose away (that was used on Tues), built some cabinets for FR gear, and got some hall maintenance completed.
