🎉Today marks the first day of the Global Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul , and the energy is already inspiring!

From the moment people began arriving, there has been a strong sense of connection. Around the venue, at shared tables, and in conversations between sessions, leaders, advocates, and practitioners from different parts of the world are coming together to share ideas, learn from one another, and talk about the work happening in their own communities.

It has been a meaningful reminder that zero waste work is built through both formal discussions and the quieter moments in between. The introductions, shared meals, stories, and conversations all help create the relationships that support long-term progress!

HSR Zero Waste is grateful to be part of these conversations alongside Zero Waste Canada and international colleagues, and we look forward to continuing the learning throughout the forum.

The session will explore black soldier fly systems, organic waste solutions, bioconversion, and circular economy models.

We look forward to sharing Canadian perspectives and insights from this global forum.

🎉Congratulations to all of the award recipients, with a special congratulations to Metropolis at Metrotown on receiving the Sustainability Award. We are proud to support their onsite recycling program and to be part of their continued work toward stronger waste reduction and zero waste practices!

Events like this are an important reminder of the role that buildings, property teams, service providers, and sustainability partners can play in creating better systems and more responsible operations.

Thank you to BOMA BC for hosting such a great evening and for continuing to recognize the people and organizations helping move the industry forward.

🌟 Jamie will be returning to the Zero Waste Forum this year, joining global conversations focused on advancing zero waste systems, circular economy practices, and practical solutions for communities and organizations!

This will be Jamie’s second year participating in the forum, bringing both Canadian perspective and hands on implementation experience to the discussion.

For HSR Zero Waste, these conversations are an important part of how we continue to learn, contribute, and bring global best practices back into the work we do with organizations across Canada.

Zero waste is not only about recycling more. It is about building better systems, improving decision making, reducing waste at the source, and helping organizations move from intention to measurable action.

We look forward to sharing more insights after the forum!

If your organization is exploring zero waste strategy, audits, training, or certification readiness, HSR Zero Waste can help you understand where to begin.

It’s been a little while since our last event, but we are still feeling grateful for the opportunity to spend such a great session with everyone who joined us!

The conversations, questions, and shared energy made the event truly meaningful. It was wonderful to connect with so many people who are thinking carefully about the future of sustainability, waste reduction, and practical solutions that create real impact.

A few key takeaways from the session included:
💡 Making sustainability practical, measurable, and achievable
💡 Building stronger waste systems that support both environmental goals and business outcomes
💡 Using collaboration, education, and clear planning to support long-term success
💡 Taking action step by step, while keeping the bigger picture in mind

Below are a few more photos we found from the event.
We’re happy to share a few more moments from such a memorable day!

🌟 1 day to go!
What does a Zero Waste event require?

Not just the right bins, but the right systems behind them. Thoughtful planning, clear processes, and measurable outcomes.

Jamie will be leading tomorrow’s session, focused on turning Zero Waste from a goal into something operational and repeatable.

Looking forward to a strong and practical discussion with the SITE Canada community.

See you tomorrow!

🌎 Happy Earth Day, Port Coquitlam!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Earth Month Recycling & Donation Drive. Because of your support, we were able to safely collect and recycle a wide range of materials including electronics, batteries, light bulbs, and scrap metal.

Together, we’ve turned that impact into a $200 donation to the Port Coquitlam Foundation, supporting local programs in our community.

This is what Earth Day is all about. Taking small actions that create real, local impact.
If you missed the event, we’re still here to help with:
♻️ Recycling pickup
♻️ Junk removal
♻️ Electronics recycling

One surprising thing about diversion programs?!
Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from removing confusion rather than adding more bins or new infrastructure.

In one manufacturing facility assessment we supported, clearer discard practices and better material handling helped reduce waste outputs and resulted in an $50,000 per month in operational savings.

💡Sometimes clarity in the system makes the biggest difference!

What Zero Waste Actually Means? Zero Waste is often misunderstood?!
💡 Zero Waste means designing systems that reduce landfill disposal over time through smarter planning, operations, and material management.

♻️ A true Zero Waste approach looks at:
• What materials are coming in
• How they are used
• How they are sorted and tracked
• Where improvement is realistically possible

Zero Waste is a structured, strategic process!

At HSR Zero Waste, this is exactly where we focus. We help organizations understand their current state, build practical strategies, and turn goals into action.
