Harken Towing is seeking Captains (Master 150GT) for service on the West Coast of Canada. Primarily responsible for the safe navigation, operation, and management of vessels (up to 150 Gross Tonnes) and its crew, primarily engaged in coastal towing, barge handling, and construction support . The position requires a Transport Canada Master 150 GT Domestic Certificate of Competency, with a high emphasis on experience in BC coastal waters, including the Fraser River.

Core Responsibilities
Vessel Operations & Navigation: Safely command the vessel, navigate and managing towing operation on coastal waters of BC and the Fraser River.

Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all Transport Canada regulations, company policies, and health/safety protocols (msmsr).

Crew Leadership: Supervise, train, and direct deckhands and mates, maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

Maintenance: Perform or oversee routine engine checks, greasing, painting, and general maintenance of the vessel and drills.

Administration: Maintain accurate logs of vessel activity, monitor weather conditions ect

Required Qualifications & Skills

Certificate: Valid Transport Canada Master 150 GT Domestic Certificate of Competency (minimum).

Experience: Min 3 years Proven barge towing experience in coastal BC waters and Fraser River .

Preferable Skills: Strong vessel handling skills, long line towing yarding and towing on the hip.

Working Conditions
Shift Work: 1 week on/1 week off

Environment: Physically demanding, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and requiring heavy lifting.

Location: Primarily operating along the BC coast, including inside passage, Puget sound and Fraser River .

Compensation
Per CMSG pay scale.
