Due to dry conditions expected for the foreseeable future, Port Rexton and Area Fire Dept is asking the public to refrain from open fires until further notice. This includes camp fires, brush burning, charcoal BBQs and outdoor wood fire pits and fireplaces. Propane units are ok to use.

Also, please refrain from throwing cigarrette butts out car windows and anywhere without making sure they are completely out. This simple careless act can quickly lead to something out of control.

Thank you for doing your part in helping protect our area from the dangers that we see happening in the provice

We had an excellent traing today with the 103 squadron SarTech's out of Gander. The mock incident was a 68 year old female that was hiking on Skirwink trail fell and broke her femur and suffered a head injury. The FD members did an amazing job with providing BLS first aid and packing the patient while waiting fir the SarTech's to arrive. The SarTech's were amazing and very professional treating this senerio as a real emergency!! Great job done by all who attended this training. Special thank you yo Randy King for organizing this amazing training. Hope to do more training with the SarTech's in the near future. Fire Chief Geff Fowlow

Attention Residents and Vistors of Port Rexton and surrounding communities, the province has seen many wildfires in the past month and going forward we are advising the public to adhere to the Provincial warnings set forth by NL Forestry.
The Fire Hazard map is intended for general public information and outlines the risk of wildland and grass fires occurring. The Fire Hazard is a relative rating of how easy it is to ignite forest vegetation and available fuels, how fast a fire may spread, and how difficult a fire may be to control. Please use common sense when lighting any type of fire and have an extinguishing agent close by ( water). Going forward please use this link to determine the category of severity our area lies and follow the instructions outlined. Of course you can contact your Fire Department if you have any questions or concerns regarding the above. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. Fire Chief Geff Fowlow

Even though the provincial fire ban has been lifted the 2 fire depts of Trinity Bight have decided to leave the fire ban in place locally. Without any significant rain we are still in the higher risk category for wildfires. Propane devices are still ok to use but we ask all people to refrain from open fires and charcoal bbqs. Thank you for your cooperation.
