Walking your dog on grass is safest in hot weather.
If you have to cross over you can check the pavement with the “5-second rule”:

Press the back of your hand to it—if it’s too hot to hold for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for paws.

What to do if you see Animal Cruelty

1️⃣Step 1: Stay Safe

Do not confront the abuser directly — your safety comes first.

Observe from a distance so you don’t put yourself or the animal at risk.

2️⃣Step 2: Document the Incident

Phone ready: Keep your phone in hand with camera on.

Video is best: Capture clear footage of the abuse.

Take photos: If video isn’t possible, photos still help.

Details: Note the location (street, park, path), approximate time, type of animal, and what exactly is happening.

3️⃣Step 3: Contact Authorities

1. Immediate danger:

If the animal is in imminent danger, call 911.

2. Non-emergency reports:

Contact Portage Animal Control at 204‑239‑8326.

Contact Portage RCMP non-emergency at 204‑857‑4445.

You can also report to Manitoba’s Animal Care Line at 1‑888‑945‑8001.

YOU decide what counts as brutal animal abuse.

➡️If you see something that looks wrong, trust your instincts.

➡️If an animal is in immediate, life-threatening danger — choking, being beaten, locked in a hot car — call 911 right away.

➡️If you witness severe neglect or cruelty — Animals left without food, water, shelter, or being treated violently — contact Animal Control to start an investigation.

➡️If you notice the same animals getting out start writing info down and take screenshots of facebook posts of these found animals.
The more evidence the better

You don’t have to wait for someone else to decide if it’s “bad enough.” If it looks brutal to you, it’s worth reporting. Authorities can only act if someone speaks up. Your call could save a life.
