National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Tuesday, Sept 30

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, TLC operations will be shut down on Tuesday, September 30.

We invite our community to join the Truth and Reconciliation Walk — a powerful opportunity to honour Survivors, remember those who never made it home, and show our commitment to moving forward together.

Walk Details
• When: Tuesday, September 30
• Time: Arrive early, the walk begins at 3:00 PM
• Route: From tiskʷat (Townsite) to ʔahʔǰumɩχʷ (Willingdon Beach)
• What to Wear: Your orange shirt

The walk is a time to gather as a community — families, friends, and co-workers — to walk side by side in reflection, healing, and unity. Along the way, we carry with us the stories of Survivors and the memory of the children who never returned home.

This walk is an opportunity to:
🧡 Honour residential school survivors and their families
🧡 Remember the children whose lives were taken too soon
🧡 Support one another as we reflect on the truth
🧡 Take steps, both literal and symbolic, toward reconciliation

At TLC, we are proud to stand with the Tla’amin Nation and our community on this important day. Together, we walk not only in remembrance, but in commitment — to truth, to healing, and to reconciliation.

A big hands raised and heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part in keeping the fire under control.

From the community members and loggers who reported it, to those we share the roads with who made way for emergency vehicles, to BCWFS and the Tla’amin community who is always ready to jump into action – your quick thinking and cooperation made all the difference.

Special thanks to Sebastien Lecours for spotting the fire early and taking immediate steps to prevent it from spreading. Because of this teamwork, the damage was minimal, and the fire is now under control.

Let’s all continue to stay alert out there – your eyes, nose and voices are a crucial part of protecting our lands. If you smell smoke - think fire !

čɛčɛhaθɛč (many thanks) to all who helped.

For generations, Tla’amin paddlers have journeyed the coastal waters. Their canoes, Ohtaqken, and Hehewsin (meaning “way of life”) carry more than people, they carry teachings of language, identity, and reverence for the waterways, passed down through the wisdom of Elders.

Each landing is grounded in sacred tradition. Paddlers uphold ancestral protocols—introducing themselves, naming their lineage and connections, and respectfully seeking permission to come ashore. These moments create connections to the ancestors, reminding us that every journey is part of something much larger.

The canoe itself is a symbol of this connection. Traditionally carved from red cedar, dugout canoes reflect our deep ties to the forest and land. Today, Tla’amin Lake Contracting (TLC), the Nation-owned logging company, continues that relationship—working within our territory with a responsibility rooted in stewardship. Logging is not just about timber; it's about respecting the legacy of the cedar tree and forest diversity, understanding the cultural importance of what it provides, and ensuring sustainable practices that honour past, present, and future generations.

This journey is more than paddling. It’s about rekindling ties with neighboring Nations, celebrating shared Salish and coastal legacies, and empowering our youth. Tla’amin paddlers are weaving cultural revitalization into every stroke across these shared waters, just as the ancestors did before us.

As you pull into each landing, we wish you safe passage, strong spirits, and heartfelt connection. May the wind guide your way, may the waters remain steady beneath your canoe, may your hearts carry the pride of your Nation and may the songs and teachings you carry ripple through generations.

Tla’amin canoe family—we are so proud of you. You are doing sacred work with every pull of the paddle.

To the pullers, skippers, support crews, cooks, knowledge holders, and hosts—your dedication makes this journey possible. Thank you for carrying our stories forward.

We raise our hands to you.

We were honoured to take part and witness in the grand opening of Ɂəms ʔayɛ (“Our House”) in t̓išosəm over the weekend — a once-in-a-lifetime event filled with culture, ceremony, and connection.

Meraki Resources was proud to help host, firing up the BBQ and serving over 450 meals! Huge shoutout to our Meraki BBQ Pit Crew for bringing the heart (and the heat):
🔥 James (Meraki)
🔥 Calvin (Tla’amin Lake Contracting)
🔥 David (Meraki) and his son Everett
🔥 Ross (Meraki)
🔥 Kevin (Meraki) and his daughters Hana & Miya
🔥 Matt (Meraki)
🔥 Colin (Meraki) and his son Jett

Incredible to see youth stepping up and giving back with pride. You all crushed it!

Hands raised to all departments, volunteers, Elders, cultural workers, sponsors, leaders, those who dedicated countless hours behind the scenes and to the organizers who made it happen. It really does take a village, and the result was nothing short of inspiring. Watching children in regalia, singing and dancing — a powerful reminder of the strength and beauty of Tla’amin culture.

The Meraki Crew are proud to stand beside the Nation as a partner in Tla’amin Lake Contracting — We are committed not only to operational excellence, but to walking alongside the community in moments that matter.

Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate and honour the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island.

We live, work, and play within the traditional territory of the Tla’amin Nation. This day is one of reflection, learning, and gratitude—for the land we are privileged to operate on and for the deep knowledge, strength, and resilience of Indigenous communities.

We raise our hands to the ancestors, elders, knowledge keepers, youth, and all those who continue to carry the flame of identity, language, and culture forward. Your leadership and teachings light the path for future generations.

Let’s walk together in celebration, in respect, and in continued commitment to reconciliation and stewardship of the lands.
