A FireSmart Assessment is a voluntary, educational visit conducted by a trained FireSmart representative.

During the assessment, we identify practical steps that can help protect your home, family, and community from the threat of wildfire.

• Roofs, decks, fences, and other structures
• Access routes and emergency preparedness

Tsunami Information Statement – No Threat to British Columbia

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Information Statement following a magnitude 8.2 earthquake near Mindanao, Philippines at approximately 4:38 PM PDT on June 7, 2026.

Key Information:

* Magnitude: 8.2
* Location: Mindanao, Philippine Islands
* Depth: 39 miles (63 km)
* The earthquake may generate a destructive tsunami near the source region (Philippines).
* Large earthquakes of this size can sometimes generate tsunamis that affect distant coastlines.

For British Columbia:
There is currently NO tsunami threat to British Columbia.

The National Tsunami Warning Center has issued this as an Information Statement only for BC, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California.
No watches, advisories, or warnings are in effect for British Columbia at this time.

Officials will continue to monitor the event and provide updates if conditions change.

Please rely on official sources for updates:

* Local emergency management agencies

At this time, no action is required for residents of British Columbia.

Community Wide Planned Power Outage – Sunday, June 7th

Please be advised that a planned power outage is scheduled for Sunday, June 7th, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

This outage is expected to affect the qathet region, including tiskʷət, t̓išosəm, ƛaʔamɩn, paq̓iʔajɩm, and saʔyayɩn.

We encourage community members to prepare ahead of time:

✅ Charge phones, medical devices, and battery packs
✅ Have flashlights ready and avoid using candles
✅ Keep fridge and freezer doors closed as much as possible
✅ Check on Elders, family, and neighbours
✅ Have drinking water, food, and any needed medications available
✅ Use generators, camp stoves and BBQ's safely outdoors and away from windows, doors, and vents

Please check on neighbours, family members, and Elders before and during the outage where possible.
