COMMUNITY NOTICE โ€“ FIRE DEPARTMENT TRAINING

If you notice firefighters, emergency vehicles, or damaged vehicles outside the Education Building in the community today and tomorrow, please donโ€™t be alarmed!

October 15 & 16, 2026

The Tlaโ€™amin Nation Fire Department will be conducting Auto Extrication Training, practicing the skills and techniques used to safely rescue people trapped in vehicles following a collision.

This is a training exercise only. No one is hurt, and there is no emergency.

You may hear loud noises or see firefighters using specialized rescue equipment during these exercises.

Training like this helps our firefighters build their skills, work together as a team, and be ready when our community needs them most.

ส”imot โ€“ Thank you for your understanding and support

Today, the Tlaโ€™amin Nation Fire Department recognizes World Mental Health Day and the importance of looking after ourselves, our families, our fellow firefighters, and our community.

As first responders, we train to respond to emergencies, protect lives, and help others through some of their most difficult moments.
Not all emergencies are visible, and not all struggles come with flashing lights and sirens.

Mental health matters just as much as physical health.

In a small community, we are more than firefighters. We are parents, partners, friends, neighbours, and community members. We all carry different responsibilities, experiences, and challenges.

๐Ÿ’š Check in on your people. Sometimes a simple conversation can make a difference.

๐Ÿ’š Make space to listen. You donโ€™t always need to have the answers.

๐Ÿ’š Itโ€™s okay to ask for help. Reaching out takes courage, not weakness.

๐Ÿ’š Look after one another. Supporting mental health is something we can all be part of.

To our firefighters, first responders, heath workers and everyone who spends their days caring for others: remember to make time to care for yourself, too.

Strong communities are built on connection, compassion, and looking after one another.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Call or text 9-8-8 anytime in Canada for su***de crisis support.

From all of us at the Tlaโ€™amin Nation Fire Department, take care of yourselves and each other. ๐Ÿ’š

As Fire Prevention Week comes to an end, Tlaโ€™amin Nation Fire Department wants to thank everyone who has followed along and shared these reminders with their families.

Fire prevention doesnโ€™t have to be complicated.

A few simple things can make a big difference:
- Use the right charger
- Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces
- Stop using damaged or overheating batteries
- Talk with your family about how you would get out during a fire
- Make sure our ฤiฤสŠy know what to do when a smoke alarm sounds

Take a few minutes this weekend to walk through your home together.

Check your alarms. Check your chargers. Talk about your exits and where everyone would meet outside.

Fire Prevention Week may be ending, but looking after one another and keeping our community safe happens all year long.

ส”imot from everyone at TNFD ๐Ÿ™Œ Have a great weekend !

Where Do You Charge Your Phone at Night?

Take a look beside your bed tonight.

Is your phone charging on the mattress, under a pillow, on a blanket or on the couch?

Rechargeable devices create heat while they charge, and soft surfaces can trap that heat.

Charge devices on a hard, flat surface such as a table, desk or counter.
Unplug them when they are fully charged.

This is an especially good reminder for our ฤiฤสŠy who may be charging phones, tablets, headphones or gaming devices in their rooms.

Have the conversation at home tonight: where is the safest place for everyone to charge their devices?

Keeping our families safe starts with simple habits at home. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Check Your Chargers โšก๐Ÿ”‹

For Fire Prevention Week, Tlaโ€™amin Fire Department is asking everyone to take a quick look around.

Phones, tablets, laptops, toys and tools are all part of everyday life, but using the wrong charger can cause a battery to overheat or become damaged.

๐Ÿ”Œ Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
โš ๏ธ Be cautious with cheap or off-brand replacement chargers.

It only takes a couple of minutes to check the chargers around your house and work place.

Talk about it with your jษ›jษ›, check the ฤiฤuyโ€™s devices, and replace anything that looks damaged, overheats when used or seems questionable.

Help prevent fires and keep our homes and community safe.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire Prevention Week is here! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

October 4โ€“10 is Fire Prevention Week, and this yearโ€™s focus is Charge Safely.โšก๏ธ๐Ÿชซ๐Ÿ”‹

We rely on rechargeable batteries every day in our phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, scooters and more. Most of the time we donโ€™t think twice about charging them, but damaged batteries, the wrong charger, or unsafe charging habits can increase the risk of fire.

This week, weโ€™ll be sharing simple reminders to help keep your home and family safe:

โ€ข Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer
โ€ข Charge devices on a hard, flat surface โ€” not on beds, couches, blankets or pillows
โ€ข Stop using batteries or chargers that are damaged, swollen or overheating
โ€ข Unplug devices once they are fully charged
โ€ข Never block exits with charging e-bikes, scooters or other battery-powered equipment, they are best charged outside the main residence.

Small changes in how we charge our devices can make a big difference.

Today we gather as a community to honour the children who never came home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and all those who continue to feel the lasting impacts of these systems.

TNFD will be there to support and walk together today in remembrance, reflection, strength, and solidarity.

This day is also a reminder that truth and reconciliation are not limited to September 30. This lives in the work we do every day to protect culture, language, family, community, and future generations.
