Get ready to celebrate Small Business Week!

Did you know that small businesses account for 98% of businesses in the province, employ over one million people, and contribute 35% of BC’s GDP?

Behind those numbers are entrepreneurs bringing ideas to life, creating opportunities, and strengthening communities across our province. Whether you’re just getting started or have been in business for years, Small Business Week (October 19-25) is a time to celebrate you!

Next week, from October 19th through 25th, we'll be sharing some of our Small Business Success Stories from right here in our Fraser Fort-George region. Plus - to mark the occasion, myCommunity Futures has curated three myCommunityFutures workshops to help small business owners continue learning, adapting, and growing.

What a week in the Okanagan! ☀️🍇 Our Community Futures Fraser Fort George team headed south to Penticton in September for the Community Futures British Columbia Fall Conference, and we came home inspired, a little tired, and full of ideas.

We were honoured to be welcomed to the territory by Chief Greg Gabriel of the SnPink'tn Indian Band, along with a beautiful performance of The Okanagan Song 🪶, and to hear a powerful keynote from Chief Clarence Louie of the Osoyoos Indian Band.

Our favourite part? Hearing local business owners share the real story of starting and running a business, the twists, turns, wins and challenges included. That's the heart of what we do at Community Futures, and we're so grateful to learn from the entrepreneurs we work alongside.

We also heard from a sports tourism panel about how the region has navigated this year's wildfire season, toured the future Okanagan Food & Innovation Hub 🏗️ (a 22,500 sq. ft. agri-food processing facility brought to life by Community Futures Okanagan Similkameen , Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen (CFSOS), the District of Summerland and LocalMotive ), and rolled up our sleeves to strategize how we can get more lending dollars out the door to businesses across BC.

A big thank you to Pacific Economic Development Canada - PacifiCan , BDC, CFSOS, Vancity Community Foundation and Community Futures BC for sharing your insights, and to every CF office and volunteer who made this conference so special.

We have such incredible stories to tell across this network, and we're proud to be part of so many of them.

On September 22, we joined Futurpreneur, WeBC, and BDC at the Sandman Signature Hotel for the 'Owners Wanted' Workshop in Prince George, an evening all about buying / selling existing small businesses. With over 100 people registered, it was a packed room! Attendees learned how to find a business that fits their goals, approach current owners, put a deal together, and line up the right funding. They even got to practise negotiating and due diligence through a mock deal process.

Our own Alanna Le Cerf shared how Community Futures supports people through business purchases and succession, along with the impact that work has had across our region. We also heard from a local business owner about the opportunity to buy their business, which gave everyone a real-life look at what ownership transition can look like. Thank you to everyone who came out, and to our fellow partners for a great event!

We provide business support to entrepreneurs in Prince George, Mackenzie, McBride, Valemount and the surrounding rural areas.

We can assist business owners, or those considering to become a small business owner, with attaining financing, creating a business plan, and accessing tools and resources for the different challenges and opportunities small business owners may face.

We excel at listening as well as asking the hard questions that challenge and inspire. While we don’t make direct referrals, we can provide a list of local professionals with the expertise you may need for a specific business issue.
