I am a Prince Rupert based aboriginal mother of one.
While I was breastfeeding my own daughter, I struggled with many aspects of breastfeeding; from poor latch, low milk supply to weaning off. It was a journey!
Being in a secluded area of B.C meant there were minimal breastfeeding support. The phone appointment with non-local lactation experts was overwhelming for a new mother. I came out with more questions than answers and it was difficult to get further help from them. While the nurses were wonderful at taking care of my daughter and myself, breastfeeding was not their main priority.
After I came home, I did a lot of “google-doctor” and too much trial and error to count. However I still struggled and in the end my daughter had to be supplemented with formula because of low milk supply. I felt utterly helpless and frustrated.
Having personally experienced the journey, I understand the struggles that come with breastfeeding, and the challenges many may face. My hope is to help mothers-to-be, new mothers, and any mother on their breastfeeding journey.
With Love
