Better Homes Energy Savings Program-New, improved support for heat-pump upgrades Applications begin on June 18, 2024
There is an exciting update to the CleanBC Better Homes Income Qualified Program which will begin taking applications June 18, 2024.
The Better Homes Energy Savings Program builds on the success of and replaces the former CleanBC Income Qualified Program that currently offers rebates to make fuel-switching and energy-saving upgrades more affordable for low- or moderate-income households.
New federal and provincial funding is enabling key program enhancements:
-expanding program eligibility to add middle-income households;
-providing rebates for 100% of the cost of a new heat pump, up to a cap that varies by the type of heat pump (central, multi-split or mini-split).
-increasing the maximum rebate amount for heat pumps from $9,500 to $16,000.
-providing a top-up of up to $3,000 for people living in northern B.C. who are switching from natural gas, propane or oil heating to an electric heat pump; and
-increasing the maximum rebate amount for electrical service upgrades needed to install a heat pump from $3,500 to $5,000.
Income Level 1 and 2 are identical to the current IQP levels. Income Level 3 is new.
The incentive levels shown in the above table are for the highest-value rebates (central all-electric heat pumps); rebates for other systems will be lower. More detailed incentive charts will be shared in the coming weeks.
British Columbians will be able to preregister and apply to the new Better Homes Energy Savings Program starting on June 18, 2024. Individuals who have already received an eligibility code for the CleanBC Better Homes Income Qualified Program or registered before June 17, 2024, will not be eligible for the new funding levels under the Better Homes Energy Savings Program, unless they reapply and meet offer requirements effective on June 18, 2024. Only installations that occur following a household’s approval under the new program criteria on June 18 are eligible for the new rebate levels. New incentive levels will not be retroactive to past installations.
The program will continue to provide support for other home-efficiency upgrades at current rebate levels for the existing Income Level 1 and 2 participants – including insulation, windows and doors, and ventilation.
On June 18, in conjunction with this new program offer, the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate program will be reducing rebates from $6,000 to $3,000, for homes fuel switching from oil, propane or natural gas.
