Agnico Eagle will be transporting cyanide between Sept 8th to Sept 10th, following the arrival of a barge on September 5th. The material will be transported as a convoy in vehicles that will travel at slow speeds from the Itivia laydown area through to the by-pass road that goes around the community before joining the Meliadine All-Weather Access Road (AWAR) to camp.

The convoy will not pass through town. Community updates will be provided throughout the operation on social media and radio.

If you have any questions or concerns, we invite you to contact us through our Nunavut Community Communication System at http://aemnunavut.ca/tusaajugut.

Thank you for your understanding.

Known traditionally as the “nesting place for seagulls,” Naujaat is a vibrant community located along Nunavut’s central mainland coast. Surrounded by rolling hills, scenic inlets, and the breathtaking Arctic tundra, the area is home to incredible wildlife, including polar bears, caribou, whales, walruses, seals and rare birds.

Naujaat is also renowned around the world for its talented Inuit artisans and carvers, whose beautiful creations are crafted from soapstone, marble, bone, antler, and ivory to reflect a rich cultural heritage and deep connection to the land.

At Agnico Eagle, we are proud to work alongside employees from Naujaat. Their knowledge, experience, and dedication strengthen our team and help us stay connected to the communities we call home.

We will be giving away free windows to Rankin Inlet residents on Tuesday, August 25th, beginning at 11:00 AM at the AEM waiting room near the airport. The windows are in good condition and available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of two per household. They were removed during a recent building renovation. Rather than see them go to waste, we are happy to offer them to the community.
