Love is patient, kind, does not envy or boast, is not rude nor self-seeking, not easily angered, does not keep a record of wrongs, does not delight in evil, loves truth; it protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres. Love never fails.

The ammonite spiral was man’s first icon. The first universally recognized symbol of the complexity of life. The first philosophical statement. The first religious symbol. It may have been responsible for the genesis of the mathematical concepts of Zero and Infinity.

A first nations miner recently wrote this on FB. "There is so much dishonesty in the ammolite industry. The vast majority of the buyers are ripping off the Blood Tribe Ammolite surface miners and collectors because they consistently undervalue the ammolite gemstones fossils that they buy off us miners. And it almost seems like a conspiracy between all the buyers to keep the Blood Tribe Ammolite surface collectors in the dark on the issue of grading and appraising. As a result, they get rich for doing nothing and the surface collectors and miners are getting pennies on the dollar for there ammolite gemstones and fossils. Some one has to take this issue into an Alberta court and have our legal system provide guidelines and delineate the metrics with respect to the issue of appraisal. These buyers come from all over the world and are predatory in there tactics and this has to stop. I guess I’m the man that has to do this because no one else is willing or has the legal education to apply for standing and prepare the the necessary paperwork and documents to have the matter raised in a court of law and for these issues to be resolved with a final judicial disposition. I replied "You say ...they get rich for doing nothing. We actually spend weeks or months restoring and polishing an always damaged ammonite that you spent a few hours illegally trenching. And sometimes we spend years trying to sell it at any profit at all."

The beloved powerline bank has been adopted by The Ammonite Commandos as our primary area for reconnaissance and monitoring. Weekly patrols will investigate, observe, & record surface conditions and visible violations of fossil prospecting and collection methods being utilized by illegal collectors. Today it was sweet Peach wine and French Baguettes on Paradise Island in the middle of the St. Mary's at the end of the powerline. Membership has its privileges.

The Power Line bank overlooking the St. Mary's River was my first exposure to Ammonite hunting in 1991 and remains amongst my favorites today. Easily accessible to all, both by road and legal land access, it is central to Bearpaw Ammonite mining history. Standing against the western horizon the Enchanted Design mine is to the right and Korite's mine is to the left. Today it is hard to find any high-grade gem or fossil material with the explosive over-trenching and the resulting down-slope shale sluffing but the high erosion from westerly winds keeps the high coulee fossil plains productive. You need a keen eye to discern the new in-situ exposure against the general concretion rubble moon-scape environment but that is what divides the experts from the rabble, you know.
