Happy New Year, Birth Pals ✨

As we step into 2026, we’re holding space for families in every season — anticipation, exhaustion, healing, growth, and joy.

Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, parenting, or supporting others through this work — you don’t have to do it alone.

✨ 7 Years of Doula Life ✨

Seven years. Hundreds of new families. Countless tears, laughs, 3 AM coffees, and quiet moments where time seemed to stand still.

When I started this journey, I had no idea how deeply it would shape me — how every birth, every family, every pause between contractions would teach me something new about strength, trust, and love.

Being a doula isn’t just a job — it’s a calling. It’s holding space when words aren’t enough. It’s showing up with your heart wide open, your bag packed with snacks and affirmation cards, and your hands ready to steady someone through one of life’s biggest transformations.

To every family who’s welcomed me into their story — thank you.

To my fellow birth workers — keep going. You are changing the world one birth / postpartum shift at a time. 💕

Mental Illness is NOT a “normal” part of the postpartum and “signing up for this” does not exclude you from being deserving of support. 🙌🏾

If any of these show up most days for 2+ weeks, it’s time to talk with your provider or support line. Healing is possible. 💕

Postpartum mental health has been top of mind for me as the days get shorter and colder 😌 🍂❄️

As a Canadian doula, I’ve noticed many of my postpartum clients tend to struggle when the colder months hit after spring / summer bliss 😮‍💨

Gentle reminder to check in with yourself / your postpartum clients!🥰

Feeling weepy or anxious after birth? You’re not alone.

The baby blues are temporary—lasting up to 2 weeks. If mood symptoms last longer, feel intense, or interfere with daily life, it may be postpartum depression or anxiety.

What to know:
• Baby blues: peaks days 3–5, fades by 2 weeks
• PPD/PPA: lasts longer, may impair functioning

Healing is a garden, not a garden centre 🌻

Healing isn’t something you can buy off the shelf. It’s slow, messy, and deeply personal—like tending your own garden. You plant seeds of self-care, water them with patience, and pull the weeds that no longer serve you. 🌼

Some days you see progress. Other days, it feels like nothing’s growing. But over time, the beauty reveals itself—quietly, naturally, in its own season.

✨ Your healing doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It’s yours.

This little light of mine ☀️🪴😎

Just like plants need light to grow, growing families thrive in the presence of steady, compassionate support. 🌿

Doulas are the quiet strength, the steady warmth, the light that nourishes and uplifts.

Here’s to the sacred work of holding space for new life. ✨💚

Hey, birth pal! I’m Bekkah 💁🏾‍♀️✨

My doula journey began in 2018 with Maternal Support Practitioner training and was immediately hooked. Birth work is definitely my calling.

One thing I knew right away was that I much preferred working with my actual human clients to writing contracts, forms, and messing with my business cards and flyers. I didn’t have the budget for professional help, so I tried and again, immediately hooked.

I used it to create a “Labour Cheat Sheet” for one of my very first clients worried that she wouldn’t know what to do when labour began. The idea was that she could hang it on the fridge for reference, but I didn’t want it to be an eye-sore or hard to understand. She used it. Loved it. And I’ve given one to every one of my birth clients since 😎

True to my doula self I couldn’t help but share the tool I created with other doulas getting started and in 2019 I opened The Birth Work Co. Etsy shop where you can now find hundreds of resources.

I believe that doulas contribute to the overall health and growth of the families they support. By uplifting birth workers we contribute to healthier, happier communities.

My mission with The Birth Work Co. is to help doulas elevate and grow their businesses with practical, evidence-based, tools and resources that reflect their passion for birth work.

I hope you’ll stick around for what’s to come. I’m so excited for the next stage of the journey!

If I were to pick an epic comeback anthem for my 30s this would be it 👩‍🎤 We gonna be golden 🎶

Both myself and my business have gone through some significant changes this past year and a half. I’ve wanted to share and keep you all updated, but ultimately I needed time and space to reconnect to the heart of my business 😌

Here are some things I’ve been reflecting on:

💜 I can do anything, but not everything.
💜 Failure is inevitable and essential for learning.
💜 My work does not define my worth.

You may have noticed my contribution to the online birth work space has decreased. Most notably I have closed my mentoring books, reduced my Doula offerings, and said “adios” to working on The Every Day Doula Podcast for the foreseeable future. This is a GOOD thing because it allows me to dedicate my time to the Etsy shop ☺️

Over the coming weeks I plan to share more about what I have been up to and my renewed passion for my business. Follow for relatable stories, nuggets of wisdom, and words of encouragement 🤗

In the meantime I’ll be checking up on YOU, my birth worker community! I want to connect and engage. You know the “social” part of social media.

Let me know if you want to connect! Leave a comment or a question and I’ll personally reach out and send love in your DMs and comments! 😎
