Albertans are no strangers to road trips. But how much do you know about your beverage container’s journey? 🚙🥤
Like a bus or train depot, the bottle depot isn’t the final destination — it's a transportation hub to get these empty containers where they need to go.
After you drop them off at the depot, your empties are shipped to one of two ABCRC facilities where they’re prepped for sale to commodity markets. And from there, they’ll undergo a recycling process unique to their container type.
Tier 1 containers, including aluminum cans, clear plastic bottles, and white plastic milk jugs, are recycled back into new beverage containers of the same type.
Tier 2 containers, including coloured plastics, glass bottles, and bi-metal cans, are recycled into all kinds of packaging and products we use every day.
Tier 3 containers, including drink pouches and bag-in-box wine bladders, are converted to energy in recycling facilities.
Talk about mileage! Be sure to help your beverage containers reach their next stop by bringing ‘em into your nearest depot today.
