CEC is back — but the CRS cutoff just jumped to 518

🚨 CEC is back! IRCC has finally ended the pause with a new Express Entry draw, and this one is big news for skilled workers hoping for PR in Canada.

In the latest draw, 3,000 permanent residence invitations were issued, and the CRS cutoff jumped to 518 — a sign that competition is still very high.

Express Entry draw details:
Program: Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Invitations issued: 3,000

CRS cutoff: 518

Trend: Higher score requirement means candidates need to stay alert and prepared

CRS score distribution comparison:
This draw shows that stronger CRS scores remain at the top of the pool, while many candidates are still waiting in the competitive mid-range. Compared with lower-cutoff draws, this result suggests IRCC may be tightening selection again for CEC candidates.

What could happen next?
More CEC-focused draws may continue if IRCC keeps prioritizing in-Canada workers.

CRS cutoffs could stay high if the pool remains competitive.

Candidates with strong French, Canadian work experience, or provincial nomination may have an advantage in future rounds.

If you are in the Express Entry pool, now is the time to review your profile, update your documents, and make sure everything is current.

Stay ready. One draw can change everything.

Stop scrolling if you are a PGWP applicant or recent graduate.

Many international students are getting refused simply because of one missing document: language test results.

Since November 2024, this has been a mandatory requirement, but IRCC did not clearly provide a section to upload it. As a result, hundreds of applications have already been refused.

Here is what you need to know right now:

Upload your language test under “Client Information”
Combine documents into one file if needed
If you already applied without it, you may still fix it through the IRCC web form

IRCC is working on updating the system, but until then, small mistakes can cost you your future in Canada.

Do not risk your PGWP. Double-check your application before it is too late.

IRCC has issued 334 Invitations to Apply in the latest Express Entry draw for Provincial Nominee Program candidates, and the CRS cutoff climbed to 805 — the highest recorded so far in 2026. This was the second consecutive PNP-only draw, showing that provincial nominees are still being prioritized while other categories remain on pause or limited.

For many candidates, this means the Express Entry pool is still highly competitive, especially if they are waiting for a Canadian Experience Class, French-language, or category-based draw. The gap between draw types can make it harder to predict timing, so keeping your profile strong and exploring provincial pathways may be important.

Canada issued over 28,000 permanent residence invitations in a single month.

Recent data highlights a high level of activity across both federal and provincial immigration programs, reflecting Canada’s continued efforts to address labour market needs through targeted immigration.

Key highlights include:

Express Entry remained a primary pathway, with ongoing category-based draws focused on sectors such as healthcare, STEM, and skilled trades

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) were highly active, selecting candidates aligned with regional labour shortages and economic priorities

Increased opportunities were also observed for French-speaking applicants and individuals with strong ties to Canada

What this means for prospective applicants in 2026:

Canada’s immigration system is becoming more targeted and strategic. Selection is no longer based solely on high CRS scores, but increasingly on how well an applicant’s profile aligns with specific economic priorities.

As a result:

Strategic profile building is essential

Program selection and timing are critical factors

Candidates in in-demand occupations or with specialized skills may have a competitive advantage

For individuals planning to apply for permanent residence, understanding these trends is key to making informed decisions.

📢 BC Updates In-Demand Jobs List for Immigration (2026)

British Columbia has updated its in-demand occupations list as part of ongoing efforts to address labour shortages across healthcare, construction, and high-impact sectors. This shift reflects the province’s priority to attract workers who can immediately contribute to critical services and economic growth.

✅ Key Priority Occupations Include:

Healthcare: Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, home support workers, physicians

Construction & Trades: Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, construction managers, heavy-duty equipment mechanics

Early Childhood Education: Early childhood educators & assistants

Tech (targeted streams may still apply): Software engineers, developers, IT specialists

Transportation & Logistics: Truck drivers, transport supervisors

Social & Community Services: Social workers, community service workers

🔄 Major BC PNP Changes (2026):

Increased focus on sector-specific draws (especially healthcare & construction)

Higher priority for candidates already working in BC in in-demand roles

Continued emphasis on wage thresholds and employer compliance

Possible adjustments to points system to align with labour market needs

Targeted invitations rather than broad, general draws

📌 These updates signal a more strategic and selective approach to immigration in BC, aligning invitations with real-time labour shortages.

📣 If you’re working in one of these occupations, this could improve your chances of receiving a provincial nomination.

🚨 BREAKING: Express Entry Draw #413 🚨

Today, April 28, 2026, IRCC issued 2,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw with a CRS cutoff of 514 — down 1 point from 515 in the previous CEC round on April 14.

Tie-breaking rule: Profiles created before September 24, 2025, at 14:18:43 UTC. Newer profiles at exactly 514 miss out this round.

The bigger trend: Draw sizes have shrunk throughout 2026, pushing CEC cutoffs from under 510 (like 507 in March) to consistently 510+ since April. A PNP nomination still adds 600 CRS points for a major boost.

If your CRS is in the 500s, let’s review your profile to maximize points via language, education, Canadian work experience, or PNP options.

🇨🇦 Canada PR Fees Are Increasing Starting April 30, 2026

If you're planning to apply for Permanent Residence (PR) in Canada, take note: IRCC has confirmed a fee increase across most PR categories, effective April 30, 2026.

💰 Updated PR Fees (Selected Categories):
Principal Applicant (Economic Programs): increasing from $850 → $950
Spouse/Common-law Partner: $850 → $950
Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF): $515 → $575
Dependent Child: $230 → $260

📌 Who Is Affected?
New PR applicants submitting on or after April 30, 2026

Applicants who haven’t yet paid full fees before the deadline

Economic, family sponsorship, and some humanitarian streams

⏳ Old Fee Rules (Important!)
If you submit your complete application AND pay fees before April 30, 2026 → you pay the current (lower) fees

If you submit before but pay after → you may need to pay the difference

📈 Why Are Fees Increasing?
To keep up with inflation and administrative costs

To support faster processing and improved immigration services

To align with long-term immigration system sustainability

👉 Tip: If you're ready to apply, submitting before April 30 could save you money.

Stay informed and plan ahead!
