Safety Spotlight: Confined Space
Confined spaces like storage tanks, vessels, and open pits pose serious risks, including toxic gases, oxygen deficiency, and flammable atmospheres.

These areas are not designed for continuous occupancy and often have limited entry and exit points. Every confined space entry must be approached with caution and prepared for. Safety isn’t optional; it’s life-saving.

Over the last few days, our delegates joined forces with sisters and brothers from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba to debate key issues and build a stronger, more united union across the region. We’re leaving inspired, informed, and ready to take this energy back to the workplace.

International Workers’ Day is celebrated every year on May 1st. This day honours the historic struggles and achievements of workers around the world. It’s a day to celebrate worker solidarity while recognizing the power of collective action.

Let’s remember the past, honour those who’ve fought for better working conditions, and continue to support workers everywhere.

Today, we at Unifor 594 pause to remember the workers who never came home and to stand with the families and coworkers whose lives were forever changed.

The Day of Mourning is a stark reminder of why we fight for safer workplaces and stronger protection. Every worker has the right to go home at the end of the day.

We are proud to have participated in the Hockey Helps the Homeless Tournament today in Regina.

This fun one-day tournament includes our players from the Refinery and Ethanol Complex, along with NHL Alumni, Colby Williams.

The funds raised go directly to Carmichael Outreach Inc., which helps our most vulnerable in Regina.

A successful day on the ice and a huge win for the community, Team Unifor 594 raised over $13,000! Proud of the effort.

Next Week! Fuel up to save babies’ lives! Our 12th Annual ‘Litres for Little Ones’ to benefit the General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is back on April 21st!

For every litre of fuel sold on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, Sherwood Co-op and Co-op Refinery Complex will donate a combined total of 20¢ to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation which will benefit the General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Working in an industrial setting during turnaround can mean longer shifts, demanding work and time away from family.

Be sure to get adequate rest between shifts, speak up if you are feeling fatigued, look out for your coworkers and use the supports available.

Safety isn’t just physical; mental health matters too. When we take care of ourselves and each other, we all get home safe.
