We asked for a photo bomb in the team group chat, and Alex came through with this winner.

Out on a job capturing the space for sketching, he managed to work a selfie into the process. Full marks for using the equipment available.

That’s an Insta360 camera. It captures a 360-degree look at the room, helping us document the space and providing a visual reference for sketching the property’s layout.

Those images help our team review site conditions, plan the work and keep a clear record of the restoration process. Alex’s smiling face is a bonus.

This project started with a sewer backup in the basement of a rental property.

Once the affected areas were assessed, the damage extended beyond what could be seen on the surface. Flooring and drywall had been impacted, and as removal got underway, the flooring had a little surprise waiting for us: two layers instead of one.
Water damage has a way of telling all of a building’s secrets.

Both layers of affected flooring were removed, along with damaged drywall and other impacted materials. Exposed areas were then cleaned, sanitized and treated before the drying process could begin.

With the affected materials out of the way, air movers and dehumidification equipment were brought in to get the structure back to a dry standard and ready for the next stage of restoration.

It’s a good example of why water damage isn’t always limited to what you can see. What looks straightforward at first can change once flooring comes up and walls are opened.

The initial damage may be what brings us to a property. Understanding the full scope is what determines what happens next.

Freezing temperatures can turn a forgotten outdoor faucet into a much bigger problem.

Water left in outdoor plumbing can freeze and expand, putting pressure on pipes, fittings and connections. And the damage isn't always obvious while everything is still frozen.

The problem may show up later.

If a pipe cracks during a freeze, water damage can begin once temperatures rise, the pipe thaws and water starts flowing again.

That's why a few simple steps before the first freeze matter. Disconnect garden hoses, check whether your outdoor faucet has a dedicated interior shut-off valve, drain the line where appropriate and make sure irrigation systems are properly winterized.

A few minutes of fall maintenance now can help reduce the risk of dealing with a water loss later.

And if you do discover a leak, shut off the water supply if it's safe to do so and address the water damage quickly.
