The 1935 Voyageur was not Canada’s first silver dollar design. In 1911, the Royal Mint created a proposed silver dollar featuring a crown surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves.

However, the death of King Edward VII delayed plans for the new coin, and the design was ultimately never put into circulation.

Today, only three examples of this historic coin are known to exist, all held in museums.

👻Haunted Canada: The Tale of the Lady in White 🎃

If you look carefully at the Montmorency Falls, located in the Québec City area, you might catch a glimpse of something (or someone) unexpected in its mist. Mathilde Robin, the grief-stricken bride-to-be who, dressed in her white wedding gown, plunged into those tumbling waters after her beloved was killed nearby in the Battle of Beauport (1759).

They say her body was never found, but many still claim to hear her cries or see her ghost leap from the top of the falls, as she did in life.

👻Haunted Canada: The Tale of the Headless Brakeman 🎃

The Waterfront Station, in downtown Vancouver, is the site where this chilling tale of the headless brakeman is said to emanate from.

On the railway tracks north of the building, the ghost of a rail worker is sometimes seen on rainy nights. In 1928, a brakeman was killed while he was making repairs in the rail yard. He slipped on the wet tracks and was knocked unconscious. Horrifically, he was decapitated when a passenger train approached and ran him over.

Since that time, some have reported seeing the headless brakeman roaming the tracks, his lantern glowing in his hand.

In 2007, The Royal Canadian Mint produced a 1 million dollar face value pure gold coin.

The coin measured 50 cm in diameter and 3 cm thick. It weighed 100 kg, which is approximately the same as a medium sized fridge or a front loading washing machine!
