Some of the hardest conversations with our parents are often the most important ones. ❤️

Talking about aging, accepting help, changing living arrangements or planning for the future can feel uncomfortable - especially when everyone involved has their own worries and opinions.

But these conversations don’t have to begin during a crisis.

A little preparation, the right timing and most importantly - genuinely listening to what your parent wants can completely change how the conversation feels.

The goal isn’t to make decisions for someone. It’s to help them feel heard, respected and involved in the decisions that affect their life.

I’ve put together 5 simple ways to make aging-related family conversations a little easier.

👉 Swipe through and save this one for when you need it.

And remember: you don’t have to figure everything out in one conversation. Sometimes simply starting the conversation is enough. 💙

Join Creative Aging Company for ‘Get Your Affairs in Order’, an informative and practical event designed to help you prepare for the future, with the people and resources you need all in one place.

We’ll explore important questions around:

🏡 Staying safely and comfortably at home - what support is available when everyday tasks become more challenging, and how in-home care can help you maintain your independence.

❤️ Planning for changing care needs - understanding your options before a crisis happens — from additional support at home to other care environments.

🧑‍⚕️ Health, wellness & care support - learn about the professional support that is available to older adults and families as needs evolve.

🤝 Community & social connection - discover resources that can help combat isolation, build connection and keep you engaged in your community.

📋 Getting organized for the future - the important conversations, information and decisions worth having in place before your family has to make them for you.

And you’ll have the opportunity to connect directly with representatives from:

🔹Nurse Next Door
🔹Wisteria Place
🔹ASK Friendship Society
🔹Telus Health
🔹Comfort Cocoons

Come with your questions, leave with practical information and hopefully a little more peace of mind.

Because getting your affairs in order isn’t about expecting the worst.

It’s about making the future a little easier for you and for the people who care about you.

✨ A little behind the scenes…

Some of the most meaningful moments happen long before the doors open.

Before every workshop, event or community gathering, there are conversations, meetings, planning and plenty of little details happening behind the scenes.

For me, it’s never just about putting on an event. It’s about creating opportunities for people to connect, learn, ask questions and feel supported as they navigate ageing - whether for themselves or for someone they love. 💛

I truly love this part of what I do: bringing people together, building relationships within our community and helping make conversations around ageing and future care feel a little easier.

Because meaningful connections don’t just happen when the doors open. They start long before. ✨

Planning ahead doesn’t mean you need to have all the answers. 💛 It simply means starting the conversation before you’re faced with a crisis.

In this Reel, I share 5 signs it may be time to start thinking about future care for yourself or for someone you love.

Recognizing these signs early can give you something incredibly valuable: time.

Time to explore your options.
Time to ask questions.
Time to understand what supports are available.
And most importantly, time to make decisions thoughtfully rather than under pressure.

🌿 Planning ahead can make difficult decisions feel a lot less overwhelming.

You don’t have to figure everything out today. Sometimes the best first step is simply starting the conversation.

💬 Have you started talking with your family about what you would want as you get older?

Save this Reel for later or share it with someone who might need a little encouragement to begin the conversation. ❤️

There is one conversation I wish more families would have before they actually need to. 💛

Here’s why starting early matters.

My advice on what families should know about aging well is simple:

PLAN AHEAD — while you’re well and in good health. 🌿

Not when you’re in a crisis.
Not when you’re in an emergency at the hospital.
Not when you’re just getting out of the hospital.

At that point, no one wants to be having these conversations. Everyone involved is stressed, worried and anxious.

Instead, start well before you need to and know that it’s okay to start small.

💬 Start the conversation:
• What do you want to do after you retire?
• Where do you want to be?
• What do you NOT want to be doing?

🔎 Start exploring your options:
• Learn about the services and supports available before you actually need them
• Attend a workshop about an aging-related topic
• Tour an Independent Living Residence
• Have lunch there
• Talk to the people who live there
• Do it with a friend or someone else going through a similar stage of life

And most of all…

Have fun with it. ❤️

Planning ahead doesn’t have to be scary or overwhelming. It can simply be about learning what’s out there, talking about what matters to you, and making choices while they’re still your choices to make.

Aging well starts long before you need help. 🌱

💪 STRONG FOR LIFE — A NEW 6-WEEK PILOT PROGRAM

Strength isn’t just about what you can lift in the gym. It’s about feeling strong, steady and confident doing the things you do every single day.

As a current member of Maki Performance Training, Debbie has experienced firsthand the value of strength training and it’s something she strongly believes becomes even more important as we age.

Maintaining our strength can mean maintaining our independence: getting out of a chair with ease, climbing stairs confidently, carrying our own groceries, staying steady on our feet and continuing to do the things we love.

That’s why Debbie wanted to help spread the word about Strong for Life, a new 6-week small-group program at Maki Performance Training designed for adults 60+ and for anyone approaching 60 or returning to strength training.

🏋️ What you’ll work on:
• Squats & sit-to-stands
• Hinges & elevated deadlifts
• Rows, push-ups & presses
• Step-ups & single-leg exercises
• Loaded carries for grip, shoulders & core

📅 Thursdays | September 3 – October 8
⏰ 9:00 – 10:00 AM
📍 Maki Performance Training
11980 Hammersmith Way, Unit 1185
💲 $150 for all 6 sessions

With small groups of just six participants, exercises can be adjusted to individual ability each session.

❤️ Because ageing well isn’t simply about living longer - it’s about staying strong enough to keep living life on your terms.

Only 5 spots are available for this pilot program.

📧 To register, email [email protected] and include the participant’s full name.

What does Creative Aging Company actually do?

In simple terms, we help people navigate aging by connecting them with the right services, professionals, and community resources.

Think of us as your aging resource and connection company.

There are countless services available for older adults and their families — home support, housing options, healthcare resources, legal and financial professionals, transportation, social programs, caregiver support, and more. The problem is that most people don’t know where to start or who to call.

That’s where we come in.

Creative Aging Company acts as a central connection point, helping older adults, adult children, caregivers, and organizations access the resources they need without having to spend hours researching and coordinating everything themselves.

Instead of trying to figure it all out alone, we help you find the right people, the right services, and the right next steps.

Whether you’re planning ahead, supporting a parent, or navigating a challenging life transition, we help make the process simpler, less overwhelming, and more connected.

Because aging isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about having the right support when you need it.
