As we continue to evolve, one idea that’s been floating around is the creation of pre-made holiday displays that could be featured in our catalog. Imagine a collection of curated displays, ready to ship and recommended by us based on our tested high-sell-through rates. It’s a concept that we believe could bring value to our customers by offering them a convenient, tried-and-true option for showcasing our products.

However, this isn’t an area where we’ve traditionally focused. Our strength has always been in providing high-quality products at competitive prices. When it comes to creating displays, especially at trade shows, we pride ourselves on doing things a bit differently. Our displays are often crafted on the spot, which makes them unique and tailored to the moment.

One challenge we’ve encountered is that we haven’t documented these displays as well as we’d like. This limits our ability to share them on social media and with our broader audience. But we’re actively considering how to change that. Looking ahead, this is something we’re planning to address—making it easier not only for our customers to access these displays but also to streamline our own processes at trade shows.

Setting up our booth at trade shows is no small feat, especially with just three of us managing the entire setup. As we think about the future, we’re committed to finding ways to make this process more efficient. That’s why, in January, we’ll be outlining a plan during our sample selection process to make these displays more adjustable and ready for wider use.

Stay tuned, as we continue to explore how we can bring more value to our customers with innovative ideas like these.

When it comes to capitalizing on rising consumer interest in traditional and cute Halloween products, boutique and gift shop owners should tread carefully to maintain their unique brand identity. Instead of chasing external trends, it's often more effective to focus on what aligns internally with your brand's core values and customer expectations.

Halloween, especially in markets like Canada, isn't as big of a buying season compared to other holidays. Therefore, finding a niche—like cute and spooky items that aren't heavily advertised—can set your shop apart. While big players might dominate the "creepy" Halloween market, there's a growing demand for products that are both charming and eerie. Catering to this niche allows you to offer something different, appealing to customers who see Halloween as a treat rather than just a time for tricks.

Balancing the temptation to follow seasonal trends with the need to maintain brand identity is crucial, not just for Halloween but for other holidays like Christmas as well. Trends can be beneficial if they align with your brand and resonate with your community. However, blindly following them can dilute your brand's uniqueness. It's about finding a balance—leveraging trends that complement your brand while staying true to what makes your shop special.

In the end, customers are looking for innovation and a sense of connection with the brands they support. By staying true to your identity and thoughtfully considering trends, you can build customer loyalty and differentiate your shop in a crowded market.

Attending the recent trade show was a rewarding experience. While some customers and vendors noticed a slight dip in traffic this time around, our experience was steady and aligned with our typical results. We had a consistent flow throughout the event, which allowed us to make the most of our time there.

One of the benefits of being based in BC is the opportunity to connect with customers from different regions, particularly those from Ontario and the Maritimes, where our market is more focused. Trade shows like this one give us the chance to engage with our customers face-to-face, have meaningful conversations, and further develop our relationships.

There’s something special about recognizing familiar faces and recalling names. It’s a unique skill that I’ve developed over the years, and I believe our customers appreciate the personal touch. It’s these connections that make attending trade shows such a valuable part of our business.

While we don't currently provide in-store display fixtures, signage, or merchandising guides, it's something we're definitely interested in exploring. Imagine having a dedicated space to showcase our ornaments or other products, complete with branded signage—that could be a game-changer for boutiques looking to stand out.

As a company, we've traditionally operated under a white-label approach, but times have changed, especially after COVID. We've realized the importance of having a distinct identity, particularly in an online-dominated world where white-label products can easily get lost in the mix.

We’re committed to growth and adapting to the evolving market. We're always on the lookout for opportunities to support our customers in differentiating their stores and ensuring their products—and ours—leave a lasting impression. We may not have display solutions yet, but we're working on it as part of our broader goal to evolve and better serve our partners.

When it comes to creating original, Christmas-themed designs, the key is authenticity. As a smaller business, we prioritize maintaining our unique voice and originality, rather than risking our reputation by copying others. Copying might seem like a quick win, but it’s not sustainable and certainly not worth the potential legal risks.

We collaborate with a range of suppliers, carefully selecting products that align with our vision. If a design catches our eye, we purchase it outright, ensuring that we're supporting creativity while staying true to our brand. And while copyright infringement isn't something we've faced, we stay vigilant. Online tools can flag potential issues, but our focus on authenticity means we rarely have to rely on them.

Ultimately, our goal is to stay authentic and committed to what we do best. We’re here for the long run, and that means investing in original, sustainable designs that resonate with our customers and reflect our brand’s identity.

In a recent conversation, we had the pleasure of chatting with David, our Account and Shipping Manager, to learn more about his approach to work, communication style, and what drives him in his role.

When asked whether he’s more left-brain or right-brain, David leaned toward the right-brain side, identifying himself as creative, artistic, and design-driven. However, he believes in a balance, saying he’s probably 70% right-brain and 30% left-brain. This mix allows him to approach his work with a unique blend of creativity and analytical thinking—a combination that’s essential in his position.

David is particularly passionate about communication. He prefers phone calls for their personal touch but also emphasizes his openness and approachability, especially during trade shows. He strives to be as informative as possible, ensuring that anyone who visits the booth feels welcomed and valued. For David, there’s nothing quite like a good chat with customers, catching up on how they’re doing and how their business is progressing.

What makes David happiest? It’s the simple things, like a customer saying, “We’re back.” But more than that, it’s the connection—having someone stop by, say hi, and engage in a genuine conversation. David’s personable nature isn’t just a work strategy; it’s who he is. He takes pride in creating a comfortable space for people, ensuring that whether it’s at a trade show or in day-to-day interactions, everyone feels at ease.

David’s approach to his work and interactions is a reminder of the importance of balance—combining creativity with analytical skills, and ensuring that every customer feels seen and appreciated. We’re lucky to have him on our team, bringing both his creative flair and warm, approachable demeanor to everything he does.

If you’re a boutique owner looking to stock up on Christmas decor, the best time to place your orders is at the end of January. Yes, it might feel too soon—especially since the holiday season just wrapped up—but this timing offers significant advantages.

Ordering in January allows suppliers to analyze which products performed well during the previous season and which didn’t. Around 30% of samples might be cut due to underperformance or lack of demand. By placing your order early, you’re essentially helping to shape the inventory, increasing your chances of getting the items you really want. Plus, these early orders are typically treated as pre-orders, giving you the flexibility to cancel if needed, with no risk involved.

So, while it might be tough to dive back into the holiday mindset so soon after Christmas, doing so can give you a better selection and a competitive edge. It’s a strategic move that can pay off when the next holiday season rolls around.

When it comes to selling Christmas decor, small businesses have a unique opportunity to stand out from the big box stores. One key way to differentiate is by creating a memorable in-store experience. While big box stores might have a wide selection, they often lack the charm and creativity in their displays. By putting effort into crafting a standout display, you can draw people in and offer them something beyond just a shopping trip.

Customers today, especially millennials, value experiences over simple transactions. They’re not just looking to buy products; they want to feel inspired, to see how they could decorate their own homes. A thoughtfully curated display can do just that—it can serve as a source of inspiration and make the shopping experience more enjoyable.

Additionally, many people are busy and don’t have the time to research or plan out their decor. When you present them with a ready-made, beautifully arranged display, you’re offering them convenience and creativity in one package. They’ll appreciate having that inspiration right in front of them, making their decision-making process easier.

In short, by focusing on the experience and creating an inviting display, small businesses can offer something that big box stores often can’t—a personal touch that resonates with customers and keeps them coming back.

Overall, the variety and quality of the collection this year seems really strong. The nautical glass ornaments are definitely standouts - they have a really nice quality and eye-catching design that I think would do well in gift shops.

The faux greenery products have also been super popular, especially the flocked wreaths, door swags, and arrangements. They come with great accessories too, which gives customers more options. I'd recommend focusing on those faux greenery pieces.

The snow globes are always unique holiday favorites, and the fabric petite people collection has a charming, whimsical feel that I bet would sell well.

So in summary, I'd focus on promoting the nautical ornaments, faux greenery, snow globes, and petite people - those seem to be the real shining stars that would make great gifts.
