Does your carbon monoxide detector look like this? That’s a problem. In addition to cracks in heat muffs and torn s**t hose, we find improperly sealed wire bundles or controls and torn boots on steering rods are huge contributors to carbon monoxide in the cabin.

We’ve seen some old hydraulic fluid before, but never anything like this. Time to change out this 5606.

Is your oleo leaking hydraulic fluid all over your tire? Typically we find the main seal has twisted and won’t seal anymore. The hydraulic fluid inside is usually long overdue for servicing as well.

Make sure to check your tanks for water before each flight. As you can see, we drained nearly 300ml of water out of this sump before seeing any 100LL.

Winter is coming... Here is a quick video the guys made last winter to demonstrate why you need to pre-heat your engine and why oil grade matters. We strongly recommend a whole engine pre-heater like a Tanis or a Reiff. At minimum a heat pad (E-Z heat or Safe Heet) on the sump would help. "Buddy Heaters" blowing luke warm air around your engine compartment just don't cut it.

See all the different types of oil and how they are effected by being outside below -30C for a few days. Now try to imagine pushing that through an engine!!

It seems the DND has recently mailed everyone on the Civil Aircraft Register regarding the upcoming 406 MHz ELT requirements. Subsequently, several customers have contacted us for clarification on the deadlines and how they apply to them. As published in the Canada Gazette, Part II (November 25, 2020), the (oversimplified) dates are:

November 25, 2021 for commercial operators.

November 25, 2025 for general aviation.
