MBL specializes in mosquito and invasive plant control and is headquartered in Rossland. We conduct Mosquito Control is our Business.

MBL has been involved with nuisance mosquito control since the 1980s. Over the years MBL has built a team of excellent staff, with experience in public relations, mapping, and mosquito surveillance and control. Currently, MBL manages some of the largest nuisance mosquito control programs in BC.

Fraser River Updates

MBL crews have been out since the start of the season, monitoring for larvae. It is an odd year for the freshet; we haven't really had it come through yet. Typically, the water gets into the zones where the floodwater mosquitoes lay their eggs after it hits a level of around 4m at the Mission gauge. So far this year the water has barely gone above 3m, and is currently hovering just above 2.5m. This is an extremely low freshet!

There is still some high elevation snow in systems way up the Fraser, but the cooler weather has meant that it is just trickling out at the moment. We don't anticipate the river level getting much above 3m at Mission.

There are still permanent ponds that we monitor and treat. Most of these ponds don't produce significant numbers of mosquitoes, so they don't often require treatments. Permanent ponds tend to have a host of critters that do the mosquito control on their own.

The wet weather that we've been having has meant that there are many little pockets of water in backyards. This has given rise to isolated and local mosquito annoyance. It is important that folks scour their yards for these pockets of water and remove or refresh the water regularly. The mosquitoes coming from these locations tend to stay local and annoy the residents adjacent, hence the isolated concerns.
