Canada has announced a one-time immigration initiative aimed at supporting smaller and rural communities facing ongoing labour shortages.
Through the In-Canada Workers Initiative, IRCC will accelerate the transition of up to 33,000 temporary residents to Permanent Residence (PR) between 2026 and 2027.
ππ‘ππ ππ‘π’π¬ π¦πππ§π¬:
β’This is not a new application stream.
β’It is a processing acceleration of existing PR applications already in the system.
β’Applies to individuals who have already applied for PR
β’Focused on workers in rural and smaller communities
Includes applicants through:
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
Community immigration pilots
Caregiver pilots
Agri-Food Pilot
Priority may be given to those who have been living and working in smaller communities for 2+ years

To address labour shortages while supporting long-term settlement outside major urban centres.

There is no new open application or registration process for this initiative. Eligible applicants will be identified from existing applications already in process.
