Every great project starts here. Moving the earth since 1950. Our story began with Michell Farm, established in the 1800s on the Saanich Peninsula.

From this family of farmers came Maurice Michell, who began specializing in custom tractor work with his father, Willard. This father-son duo used their equipment and experience to serve those in their community: farmers, homeowners, and business people. Before long, they had earned a reputation for producing quality work and forging relationships built on integrity and trust. Today, Michell Excavating continues to live up to that reputation. The company consists of Maurice’s children and grandchildren as well as a team of dedicated employees, many of whom have been with Michell Excavating for decades. We have experience you can rely upon, a passion for creating exceptional products, and a mission to contribute to our community.

Today marks a special milestone as we remember Maurice Michell, founder of Michell Excavating, on what would have been his 100th birthday.

Maurice’s dedication, perseverance, and entrepreneurial spirit laid the groundwork for a company that continues to thrive today. His contribution to our community and the countless projects he helped make possible will not be forgotten.
For 100 years, his story has inspired generations of our family and team members to work hard, serve our customers, and take pride in every project.

Thank you, Maurice, for building more than a company. You built a legacy.

We’re reaching out to support one of our team members and their family during a very difficult time.

Their child, Logan, is currently facing a serious medical situation and a challenging road to recovery. This has created a significant emotional and financial strain on the family.

If you’re able, we kindly ask you to consider supporting them through their GoFundMe. Any contribution or share is greatly appreciated.

2025 wasn’t handed to us. We built it.

Early mornings. Long days. Big moves.
Challenges came—but quitting never did.

From the first dig to the final load, we showed up committed, locked in, and ready to work.

Some say it looks too easy…
That’s just what happens when preparation meets grind.

Thanks to our crew, partners, and clients for trusting us all year.
2026—let’s raise the bar.

🚧 Lining Things Up Before We Go Deep

We’re on site supporting the pile crew and getting everything dialed in before excavation starts. A bit of organizing, a bit of coordinating, and a lot of making sure the ground stays where it’s supposed to.

The big dig is coming—right now we’re just making sure the stage is set.
