Here's the corporate tax deadline mistake many Canadian business owners make every year: They know their T2 is due six months after their fiscal year-end β so they wait until then to pay their tax. But for most CCPCs, the PAYMENT was due two or three months after year-end. Result: months of daily compound interest on a balance they thought they were paying on time.
For a December 31 year-end Alberta CCPC, the key dates are:
π March 31 β Corporate tax balance DUE (not the filing deadline β the payment)
π March 31 β Annual GST return and payment due
π February 28 β T4 slips and T5 dividend slips filed with CRA
π June 30 β T2 federal return filed with CRA
π June 30 β AT1 Alberta provincial return filed with TRA
π Monthly β Corporate tax instalments if required Miss any of these and the penalties are automatic.
The CRA does not send a reminder. Our latest blog post has the complete deadline calendar for Alberta corporations β including the filing vs. payment distinction that catches business owners every year.
