Some folks are what I call CON-nectors - rehearsed & calculated.
They donāt show up to serveāthey show up to take.
Itās all about what they can get from the conversation, the room, or the relationship. And theyāre good at pretending to care. They know the right words, the right nods, and the right timing. But itās not real.
Itās rehearsed. Calculated.
These types donāt invest in connectionāthey perform it.
And while they might rise fast in some circles, their lack of genuine care eventually shows. Time always tells the truth.
And hereās the thingāif youāre building a brand, this matters more than you think. Whether itās your business brand or your personal one, how you show up is the brand. People can smell performance a mile away.
They can tell when someoneās connecting to get something, not to give something. They donāt trust itāand they shouldnāt.
Reputation, opportunity, and long-term success donāt come from a polished pitch or perfect packaging. They come from how people experience you. Do they feel seen? Heard? Respected? Or do they walk away feeling used, dismissed, and sold to?
Thatās why Iām great at marketing. Not because I know all the tacticsābut because I understand the 'why' within the human journey. And thatās where you start. Always.
Iāve learned this: I always want to show up with my gives being equal toāor greater thanāmy wants. Thatās my internal compass. Because when someone leads with the āaskā and never brings a āgiveā? You notice. Quickly.
The conversation tilts toward them. Their needs. Their goals. Their agenda. And the moment you stop being useful? They disappear.
But hereās the flip sideāreciprocity, when itās ethical and rooted in respect, is a beautiful thing. When youāre around people who get it, who are wired to give just as much as they receiveāit flows.
You donāt have to force it.
When you lead with āabundance - curiosity - gratitudeā, people want to give back. Not because they have to. Because they want to. Because you showed up right.
And when you show up right, your brand canāt help but grow in the right direction.
Connection isnāt how you close the deal.
Itās how you open the door.
