Is Your Brick Chimney in Rough Shape? Cracks and Fractures Will Worsen Exponentially With Continued Damage From Winter’s Ice Freeze/Thaw Action.
Regular inspection of your rain cap, chimney protective cap, clay liner, roof flashing, and mortar will help plan preventative maintenance to extend the life of the masonry chimney. Without a rain cap, your chimney liner and mortar are exposed to the elements, risking water pe*******on and washout of mortar, and leading to water expanding as it turns to ice, damaging the masonry brick and clay liner. Water can further pe*****te into your home, damaging paint, drywall wall, and risking mould and further water damage and rusting out your stove pipe and stove or furnace..
As part of our cleaning practices when up on the roof besides sweeping the chimney m, we visually inspect masonry and steel chimneys for failing silicon seals, the rain cap, flashing components, signs of roof damage, and can offer a range of repair options.
If the system is still structurally sound, a cosmetic protective Chimney Cap Cover can be custom fit to protect from further damage. Integrating with your chimney rain cap and sealed to the elements, removable for future work if needed, and helps direct rain away from the chimney with a drip edge. Available in galvanized or stainless steel options, and a tight friction fit.
Damaged and cracked clay liner can pose a fire risk to your home as it no longer provides the proper heat resistance to fire and may leak carbon monoxide and other harmful gasses into the residence from your stove, fireplace or wood/oil furnace.
This can be remedied by retro fitting a stainless steel liner insert, available in an array of sizes, in rigid straight sections, or a flexible corrugated liner, similar to dryer venting but much thicker. These can hook up to existing stovepipe locations or connect directly to an wood stove insert installed in the existing fireplace cavity.
Sometimes a clay liner’s inner diameter is too small to install the proper size stainless steel liner, or some parts may have broken off and plugged up the passage. In this case, we have special tools to break the clay liner out efficiently, removing the rubble, and allowing for installation for the correct liner size to suite your stove or appliance. A stainless liner will provide a much more efficient chimney system for your stove, while retaining the traditional looks of your masonry chimney.
