When people ask what a salt mine means for this part of Newfoundland, these are the numbers we point to. $4.8 billion in projected GDP impact. More than 17 direct long-term jobs. $2.5 billion in local wages. $90 million to municipalities, and $2.7 billion in tax revenue, much of it staying here.

We've held eight in-person engagements with Indigenous councils and representatives so far, and we continue to work closely with regional Indigenous communities.

Some of the mine design came straight from local feedback. The conveyor carrying salt from mine to port is fully enclosed, a response to what people told us about dust and noise.

Good projects get built with a place, not just in one.

Did you know the salt deposit at St. George's is about three kilometres across? You could lay ten Eiffel Towers end to end and still not cross it.

The mine plan uses 95 million tonnes of it, at 95.9% pure salt, enough for 24 years. Around that sits another 868 million tonnes that isn't in the plan at all, and the deposit is still open in every direction. It's been sitting quietly under western Newfoundland for a very long time.

Meet the person running Atlas Salt.

Nolan Peterson became CEO in June 2025. He's a Professional Engineer, a CFA charterholder and holds an MBA; an unusual combination, and a useful one when you're trying to both build a mine and finance it.

Before Atlas he helped deliver New Afton, Rainy River and Hope Bay, worth roughly $2 billion between them.

In fifteen months here he's delivered an updated feasibility study, brought on Hatch, started Early Works, raised about $25 million, signed a rail agreement with CN, and secured over $300 million in financing letters of interest.

When he joined he said he wanted to advance this project "with deep respect for the communities and environment we serve." That's the standard we're working to.

Road salt bids in Pennsylvania came in at about US$160 a ton this season, nearly double last year's US$88. West Virginia is now authorising purchases up to US$175. In Ohio, 18 counties asked for salt and got no offers at all on the first try.

Towns can't opt out of buying salt. Roads have to stay open.

North America imports 8 to 10 million tonnes a year to cover what it doesn't mine at home. That's the gap the Great Atlantic Salt Project is being built to help close.

Building a mine takes money, and investors always ask where it comes from first.

Atlas Salt has received more than $300 million in financing letters of interest: $150 million from Export Development Canada, $75 million from a foreign export credit agency, and $79 million from Sandvik toward mining equipment.

Hatch is our lead engineering partner. CN is working with us on rail. Scotwood, the largest US distributor of packaged retail de-icing salt, has signed an offtake MOU.

Letters of interest are a step, not a signature. But export credit agencies don't take them lightly.

News Release:

Atlas Salt Reports Positive Nepheline Syenite Testwork Results and Advances Maiden Drilling at Black Bay

Summary of Key Points:
~ Magnetic separation alone reduced iron oxide, the principal impurity in Nepheline Syenite deposits, from 2.84 weight per cent ("wt.%") in the feed to between 0.01 and 0.03 wt.% in product, at a combined mass recovery of 87.7 wt.%.
~ The chemical composition of the samples meets typical published industry specifications for both glass and ceramic use. Iron oxide impurities are significantly below typical industry limits and below all comparable commercial reference products.
~ Atlas Salt is advancing a maiden diamond drilling program at Black Bay, the first test of the occurrence at depth.

Nolan K. Peterson, CEO of Atlas Salt, commented:
"The results of this beneficiation program, carried out by Anzaplan, are the results we were hoping for when we sent this sample to Germany. A simple magnetic circuit - no flotation and no acid - took the iron down to a tenth of the maximum limits the glass and ceramic markets will accept, and it held close to 88 per cent of the mass while doing it. Nepheline Syenite deposits are geologically uncommon on a global scale and where favourably located. high purity, low iron deposits of significant commercial interest - North America has one nepheline syenite mine in production. Black Bay sits six kilometres from tidewater on a paved highway providing excellent access."
