The fire was out in 20 minutes. The soot kept eating the house for another 72 hours.

Most homeowners think the damage stops when the flames do. It doesn't.

Soot is acidic. It etches countertops, corrodes door handles and light fixtures within 24-48 hours, and bonds smoke odor into your drywall, insulation, and framing at a molecular level.

Wiping it down with a damp cloth? You just spread it.

The first 48 hours decide how much of the home gets saved. If you've had a fire anywhere in Saint John or Eastern NB, don't wait for the insurance call to start. Call us first.

After a house fire, most homeowners go quiet. They assume the restoration crew sets the rules and they just sign where the pen points.

Wrong. You're the one who lives there. You're allowed to expect things, in writing, before a single piece of drywall comes down.

The flames are out, but the soot isn't. It's still moving through your ductwork, still settling behind your baseboards, still working into the framing where you can't see it. Surface clean doesn't mean structurally clean. Two very different jobs.

Here's what you can expect from us at Elevation, and frankly, what you should be demanding from anyone you let through that door in Saint John, Rothesay, Quispamsis, or anywhere across NB:

A written timeline before demo starts. Air quality testing, not just a visual walk-through. Documentation of every affected area before we close anything back up. A real process for soot inside the HVAC. A heads-up the second we find damage worse than the original estimate. And moisture readings, before and after drying, handed to you on paper.

Ask the questions. Make us show our work. If a contractor flinches when you ask for documentation, that's your answer right there.

Josh has been doing this long enough to know that an informed homeowner gets a better restoration. Every single time.

Most August basement floods could've been spotted in July.

We see it every summer. Saint John, Rothesay, Quispamsis. Same story, different street.

Three checks. Under an hour. No contractor needed.

1. Clear your eavestroughs. Blocked gutters dump water straight against your foundation.

2. Watch where your yard drains after a light rain. If water runs toward the house, you've got a grading problem.

3. Pour a bucket into your sump pit and make sure the pump kicks on. Find out now, not at 2am during the next downpour.

None of these take long. What they catch can save you weeks of restoration and a five-figure insurance claim.

For every situation, choose Elevation Restoration.

A Saint John homeowner just got new roof, siding, soffits, fascia, and gutters replaced. All at once.

And you know what she mentioned just as much as the work itself? The cleanup.

So here are 3 things worth knowing before a crew shows up to replace your exterior.

1. Scope goes deeper than you think.

A full exterior job usually means roof, siding, soffits, fascia AND gutters, all replaced together. If a contractor only quotes one piece when a few are failing, ask why. Doing them separately costs more and leaves weak links.

2. Communication is non-negotiable.

From the first call to the last nail, you should know what is happening and when. A good crew tells you the daily plan and flags anything unexpected. If your contractor goes quiet mid-job, that is a red flag.

3. Cleanup is part of the job.

When the crew packs up, your yard should look like they were never there. Shingles, off-cuts, old flashing, packaging, all of it gone. A clean site is the baseline for any crew worth hiring.

A full exterior replacement is one of the biggest investments you'll make on your home. Knowing what good looks like means you can spot the difference before you sign anything.

"The wall looked perfectly fine."

The mold behind it had been growing for four months.

That's the part of water damage most Saint John homeowners never see coming. Drywall looks clean, paint looks dry, and the structure behind it is already rotting.

After 16 years of opening up walls in this city, the house almost always warns you first. Bubbling paint. A musty smell that won't quit. A floor that flexes when you walk over it.

Swipe through 👉 three signs you can spot yourself, before we bring the saw out.

Catch it early, it's a small repair. Catch it late, it's a gut job.

If something in your house is telling you it's wrong, message Josh and we'll come take a look.
