A great day spent with great people! ☀️🌲

Earlier this month, we welcomed Woodlands and Sawmill employees and their families to Christie Brook Falls in Truro for our annual Family Picnic.

From music and prizes to family-friendly activities and time spent enjoying the outdoors, it was a wonderful reminder that our people and their families are at the heart of what we do.

Christie Brook Falls is a protected Aesthetics site under our Conservation Areas Program? It is one of 2,453 conserved sites included in the program.

Growing her career from the ground up 🌱

Meet Fallon Thornton, Junior Grower at our Juniper Tree Nursery.

Before joining the nursery full time, Fallon spent one summer as a Student Grower and two summers helping lead tree planting crews, all while studying at the Maritime College of Forest Technology.

In 2025, Fallon secured a full-time position with the company before graduation.

"Having a job lined up before graduation was important to me," Fallon said. "it gave me the freedom to fully focus on my studies without the added pressure of job hunting, and motivated me in my pursuit of a meaningful career."

Today, Fallon helps monitor the growth and health of millions of seedlings at the nursery, making sure they have the best conditions to thrive.

Oh deer... she's back! 🦌

Remember the curious doe that visited our Fort Kent office in July?

She stopped by again last week, and introduced the team to her little fawn!

Thanks to Roy Bernard for capturing this special moment. 📸

The Ferrari of tree growing 🌱🏎️

Meet Nico Hache, Site Manager at our Maritime Innovation facility.

Nico is helping drive the development of our new Sussex Tree Nursery - a world-class greenhouse that will produce the next generation of high-performing seedlings.

For Nico, it's a dream project.

"For me as a horticulturalist, it's like giving me a Ferrari to go race car driving," said Nico.

The new facility will combine advanced tree growing techniques with cutting-edge technology, including smart transplanting robots that help select for seedling quality.

"It's very exciting," said Nico. "The company is still pushing the envelope, innovating and getting to full production while continuing research."

A pair of future forest giants! 🦉🌲

Our team spotted these two Great Horned Owlets peeking out of a nest on our land earlier this spring. Because of this active nest, this site is now protected by our Conservation Areas Program, which helps ensure young owls have a safe space to call home.

adult Great Horned Owls have massive wingspans, ranging from 4 to 5 feet? It won't take long for these little ones to get big... Great Horned Owlets grow fast, reaching nearly their full adult size in just 10 weeks!

We're so lucky for the chance to watch these little ones grow!

Growing her future, one seedling at a time. 🌱

Meet Emma, student grower at the Juniper Tree Nursery and recipient of the Irving Woodlands Plant Sciences Scholarship!

A recent high school graduate, Emma will be attending Dalhousie University this fall to pursue a Bachelor of Agriculture.

For Emma, working at the nursery is helping her prepare for classroom learning.

“I'm taking classes that specialize in greenhouses," said Emma. "This work experience gives me a head start, letting me develop a base knowledge of everything and apply that to my schooling.”

Through the scholarship, Emma receives support for tuition, summer employment opportunities, and a guaranteed position with the organization after graduation.

A rare nighttime visitor! 🌙👀

One of our wildlife cameras in Northern Deersdale captured this elusive fisher on the move after dark!

that despite their name, fishers don't actually eat fish? These medium-sized carnivores primarily hunt small mammals such as snowshoe hares, mice and squirrels.

Secretive and mostly active at dawn or dusk, fishers are rarely seen, making sightings like this a special treat!

Celebrating the future of forestry 🌲

We recently welcomed students from across the Irving Woodlands and Sawmills teams to celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for their contributions this summer.

From touring a sawmill to trying their hand at tree planting, students explored different areas of the business, connected with leaders from across our operations, and learned more about the diverse career paths available within the divisions.

Thank you and best of luck as you return to your studies this fall! 🍂

Fighting wildfires from the skies. ✈️🔥🌲

Meet Ian, Deputy Chief Pilot of our Forest Patrol team, helping protect our woods from above.

Before fire season begins, Ian and the team spend weeks preparing through simulations, training flights, and exercises with provincial partners. They continue to train regularly through the season, ensuring they're ready when the call comes.

"The training flights are a ballet in the air," said Ian. "Everything is controlled. It's a very technical display, and very safe when done right."

When fire breaks out, Ian and the team can be airborne and responding anywhere in New Brunswick in less than an hour.
