September Auction Highlight

Philip Iverson (1965–2006), acrylic on board, "Abstract Seascape," 24" x 24", signed and dated on reverse 2005 (framed).

Philip Iverson was a Fredericton-born Canadian expressionist painter known for his bold colour, energetic brushwork and expressive landscapes and abstractions. He graduated from Mount Allison University with a BFA in 1990 and exhibited widely across Canada. His work was shown at Gallery 78 in Fredericton and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, which presented his work as part of A New Brunswick Trilogy in 1999.

September Auction Highlight

Roméo Savoie (1928–2023, acrylic on canvas, "Abstract Flower", 33" x 27", signed lower right and dated 08' (framed).

Roméo Savoie (1928–2023) was an influential Acadian painter, poet and architect from Moncton, New Brunswick. After working as an architect, Savoie devoted himself to painting and developed a distinctive abstract practice characterized by experimentation with colour, form, texture and technique. His work has been exhibited extensively in Canada and internationally and is represented in major public collections. Among his many honours are the Miller Brittain Award, Strathbutler Award, an honorary doctorate from the Université de Moncton, and appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada. Savoie is recognized as one of New Brunswick’s most important contemporary Acadian artists.

September Auction Highlight

Exceptional Saint John Cabinetmaker Alban Emery Faux Partners’ Mahogany Desk.

Beautifully crafted and signed and labelled by renowned Saint John cabinetmaker Alban Emery, this exceptional faux partners’ mahogany desk showcases outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The desk features five drawers with beaded trim, reeded edges, and beautifully matched flame mahogany drawer fronts, complemented by heavy brass hardware. The piece is further enhanced with a stylized carved sunburst motif and decorative trim, standing on four elegant cabriole legs ending on carved paw feet.

This piece has been authenticated by leading New Brunswick furniture expert Liz Isaac, further establishing its provenance and significance within the tradition of New Brunswick furniture craftsmanship.

A superb example of fine regional cabinetmaking, combining rich mahogany, intricate carving, and exceptional construction. The desk remains in excellent, near-mint condition and presents beautifully.

A rare and highly desirable piece of New Brunswick furniture history, a must-see and exceptional addition to any collection.

Paul Healey (b. 1964, Toronto) is a Canadian contemporary painter and printmaker based in New Brunswick. James William Beatty (1869–1941) was a Toronto-born painter who trained in Toronto, Paris, and London, became a member of the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy, and emerged as an early influence on the Group of Seven through sketching trips with Lawren Harris, J.E.H. MacDonald, A.Y. Jackson, and likely Tom Thomson. His work evolved from European-influenced tonal studies to bright northern landscapes, earning national recognition, major exhibitions, and inclusion in the National Gallery of Canada, documented through records from the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the National Gallery of Canada (NGC), and the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA).

Fred Ross (1927-2014) was a celebrated Canadian painter and muralist from Saint John, New Brunswick, known for his figurative work and psychological depth. Born and trained locally at the Saint John Vocational School, he studied mural painting, travelled to Mexico to see the work of Diego Rivera and Pablo O'Higgins, and taught art in Saint John before devoting himself full-time to painting. Ross exhibited widely in Canada and abroad, was honoured with the Order of Canada, Order of New Brunswick, and an honorary doctorate, and his work is held in major public collections including the National Gallery of Canada.
