From one end of the Lakelands to the other, these are not side trips.

🐝 Wednesday Operator Feature: Christy Creek Honey

This week’s featured operator takes us into the Boreal Forest Region, where Christy Creek Honey is creating memorable experiences around bees, honey and rural Alberta life.

Located near Lac La Biche, this family-operated apiary offers private bee tours, honey harvesting experiences, indoor observation hive tours and hands-on beeswax activities. Visitors can suit up in a real beekeeping suit, open a hive alongside an experienced beekeeper and learn how honey travels from the flowers to the hive and eventually into the jar.

Christy Creek Honey was also a participating host during Alberta Open Farm Days, welcoming guests to watch bees at work, explore the farm, browse locally produced honey and gifts, and learn more about the important role pollinators play in Alberta agriculture. In 2026, the operation was recognized as Agritourism Alberta’s Farm of the Year.

Whether you are interested in beekeeping, searching for locally produced honey or looking for a unique family experience, Christy Creek Honey offers a sweet reason to explore the Boreal Forest Region.

The Boreal Region just got a whole lot bigger on the Travel Lakeland map. 🌲

Travel Lakeland has added hundreds of new operators, attractions, campgrounds, activities, landmarks and places to explore across each of our regions, giving visitors a much more complete way to discover the Lakeland.

This week, we are exploring the Boreal Region.

Open the new regional map and you will find pins spread across a landscape of forests, lakes, campgrounds, recreation areas and communities. The Boreal Region is one of the best places in the Lakeland for backcountry fishing, paddling, hiking, camping, wildlife viewing and dark sky experiences.

Our featured images offer just a small sample of what you can find, including Jackfish Lake Campground, Katherine’s Camping Corner, Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park, Grist Haven Lodge and Wolf Lake Recreation Area.

But these are only the beginning. The real story is in the map.
