We take all feedback seriously and aim to resolve concerns directly with our clients. I chose not to respond publicly at the time while the matter was being handled through the proper channels.
In this case, the service requested was data recovery, as the hard drive had failed and the priority was to retrieve important personal files. That work was completed successfully, and the recovered data was provided on a USB drive to the client.
Prior to beginning the work, I explained that due to the age of the laptop (2001), specialized legacy tools would be required and that any hardware upgrades, such as replacing the drive, might not be cost-effective compared to the value of the system. Approval was given to proceed. The cost reflected only my time for data recovery, and a 25% discount was applied for unrelated reasons.
Replacing a hard drive and recovering data are two separate processes. Installing a new drive does not recover lost files. The service performed was specifically to retrieve the data from the failed drive, which was completed as requested.
Unfortunately, the invoice for the completed work was not paid. The matter proceeded through the Alberta Court of Justice, where judgment was entered confirming the validity of the service and the amount owed.
