Hidden in the heart of downtown St. Thomas is one of the city's most unique nightlife experiences: Bass Notez Cocktail Lounge.
Part cocktail lounge, part live music venue, and part creative playground, Bass Notez has quickly become a destination for people looking for something different. Owner Stephanie Klassen created the venue with a simple vision: a place where great music, incredible drinks, and good conversation could exist under the same roof.
"I wanted something where people would sing to me all day," Stephanie jokes.
That sense of fun and creativity is everywhere you look. From dramatic cocktails served with smoke, fire, and unexpected presentation, to one-of-a-kind concoctions dreamed up on the spot, Bass Notez isn't interested in being just another bar. In fact, one of their most popular menu items is what manager Coburn jokingly refers to as โCoburn's Bullsh*tโ โ a custom cocktail built around whatever spirit and flavour profile a guest requests.
No two visits are ever quite the same.
But Bass Notez is about much more than cocktails. The intimate, velvet-lined lounge was designed to create an atmosphere where guests can actually enjoy the music without shouting over it. Local favourites, jazz performers, blues musicians, singer-songwriters, and emerging artists regularly take the stage, creating the kind of live music experience that's increasingly hard to find. The venue hosts live entertainment several nights each week and has built a reputation for showcasing local talent in an elegant, relaxed setting.
And now, there's food.
After launching as a late-night cocktail destination, Bass Notez expanded its offerings with a full dinner menu featuring house-made specialties. From handmade pierogies topped with bacon gravy to fresh dips, sandwiches, and other rotating creations, the kitchen embraces the same creative spirit as the bar. Nearly everything is made in-house, right down to the cottage cheese used in their pierogies.

Bass Notez has also become known for its unique themed events. Dirty trivia nights, burlesque performances, specialty entertainment shows, and other unconventional experiences have helped build a loyal following. Some trivia teams have even had custom shirts made just for the events. As Stephanie puts it, they're always looking for ways to offer something you can't find anywhere else in St. Thomas.
