Headed out for the evening, consider leaving the television or radio on to give the impression that someone is home. Potential burglars would much rather enter a residence they are sure is unoccupied.

Burglars prefer to enter through unlocked doors and windows. An easy entry point can be created when exterior extension cords are run inside through a door or window and prevent it from being secured.

After Christmas Day, avoid piling up empty gift boxes on the curb for garbage pick-up. Potential burglars appreciate knowing that you have expensive gifts inside for them to steal. Consider stacking cardboard with unmarked boxes on the outside to keep 'em guessing.
