Fire Rescue Atlantic is pleased to be part of the procurement of a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) compressor with the Eskasoni (NS) Fire Department. Pictured new unit with Left to Right: Eskasoni Firefighter, Doug Hamer & Bruce Langille, Fire Rescue Atlantic, Technician with Connors Diving installing the unit, Fire Chief Fred Sylliboy and Eskasoni firefighter. The unit will enhance operations in refilling SCBA cylinders, that formerly inolved a 3-4 hour round trip to accomplish remotely.
This purchase was part of an audit process conducted by Fire Rescue Atlantic at one of the Indigeneous Fire Departments in the Atlantic Region, recommending improvements to fire protection capabilities.

A great project to be involved with from concept, working with Pictou Landing First Nations Fire Department during the spec, final inspection and delivery to their fire station. Helie were a great company to work with and a lot of happy firefighters in PLFN Fire Dept on arrival.

Great weekend of pumper training with members of the Weycobah Fire Department in Cape Breton. Lots of water, both from the sky and rigs covering draughting, hydrant and porta tank operations. A very enthusiastic group and a few chuckles...and young visitor Kenny and his grandfather Rod, a "semi retired" volunteer firefighter experienced this evolution and perhaps Kenny will join the ranks in years to come. A Big thank you to Deputy Chief Junior Gould for gathering the troops, and organizing great lunches both days.

August 1st, 2025 marked the official opening of the new Sylvester Copage Memorial Fire Station in Elsipogtog, NB. A beautiful day to honour both the late Fire Chief Copage and todays firefighters. Some images of the events today.

July 25/26 was the Atlantic Aborigional Firefighters Annual Meeting and Firefighter Competition in https://tobiquefirstnation.ca/ Tobique/Wolastoqiyik Neqotkuk , NB. The weather was great and some images from the Competition.

One of the interesting projects Fire Rescue Atlantic was involved with was an analysis of fire protection (or the lack thereof) on Chapel Island, part of the community of Potlotek in Nova Scotia. Annually every summer, a gathering knowns as Sante Mawio'mi; St. Anne's Mission takes place, with thousands of people ...some living in this closely compacted wood frame buildings. The island is only accessible by boat. Fire Rescue Atlantic recommended the placement of portable pumps and hose lines when this event takes place. There have been a number of fires there, with some loss of buildings ...fortunately no loss of life.

In an audit of the Eskasoni Fire Department, gaps in protection were recognized relating to non-hydrant areas. Fire Rescue Atlantic assisted Eskasoni in acquiring a 2000 gallon tanker unit to supplement their non-hydrant protected areas. The tanker was supplied by Camions Heile/Heile Fire Trucks, Joliette, Quebec. (Nov 2022)

As part of Fire Rescue Atlantic's audits of the 12 First Nations Fire Departments in Atlantic Canada, gaps n fire protection were identified and improvements were made. One such recommendation was for the acquisition of a Quint for the Eskasoni Fire Dept to deal with a number of structures. There was no nearby ladder unit, so after a search a used unit was acquired from Eastcan Fire Trucks in New Brunswick. This unit is now utilized as a first responding unit and has improved fire protection capability in the community.
