105 years. Let that sink in. 🎂

Shuswap Clothing & Shoe Company has been dressing this town since 1921 through every era, every trend, and every generation of Salmon Arm families walking through those doors.

Today they’re celebrating the only way that feels right: with you. Stop by for free cake and coffee, one-day-only anniversary sales, and say congrats to Gerald and the crew. They’ve earned it. ❤️

Today only don’t miss it.

There’s a reason Anvil Coffee Collective feels like someone’s living room. Because it kind of is.

Sisters Shelby and Destini opened the Ross St. café in 2021 with their parents Janis and Ralf — and Dad, a machinist, built a lot of the furniture himself. Five years later it’s still family-run, and still baking everything fresh in house every morning.

Ethically sourced beans. Oat, almond, or soy if that’s your thing. A flourless brownie that gets talked about. And a crew that will happily walk you through a pour over if you’ve never had one.

Downtown Salmon Arm is grateful to receive approval for another seven-year term. We extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Harrison, Council, and City of Salmon Arm staff for their continued support and partnership.

🏙️ Downtown Business Improvement Area: Renewed for 2027–2033

Council has adopted Business Improvement Area (BIA) Bylaw No. 4746, renewing the Downtown Salmon Arm Business Improvement Area for another seven years, from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2033.

So, what is a BIA and how does it work?

The BIA provides funding to the Salmon Arm Downtown Improvement Association to support initiatives that strengthen and enhance the downtown business area. Funding can be used for activities such as:

🏪 Supporting and encouraging downtown business
🌸 Beautification and maintenance of streets, sidewalks and City-owned spaces
🧹 Graffiti removal
📊 Studies and reports related to the business area

The funding is not collected through general taxation. BIA grants are recovered through an annual levy on eligible Class 5 and Class 6 properties located within the Downtown Business Improvement Area.

💰 Under the renewed bylaw, the maximum annual grant begins at $254,460 in 2027 and increases gradually to $328,166 in 2033.

The Salmon Arm Downtown Improvement Association is also required to submit an annual budget to Council for approval and account for the funding received in the previous year.

This seven-year renewal provides a framework to continue investing in the vitality, appearance and promotion of Salmon Arm's downtown.

Have you completed the survey from Salmon Arm Economic Development Society to help inform the next 5 years? Five minutes to help shape the future.

Local businesses know this community better than anyone.

You know what is working, what is getting harder, where the opportunities are, and what kind of support would actually make a difference.

SAEDS is developing a new Five-Year Action Plan, and we need to hear from the people building, running, hiring, investing, adapting, and showing up in Salmon Arm every day.

Your input will help guide future business support, programs, advocacy, partnerships, and promotional initiatives.

The survey is anonymous, takes about 10 minutes, and your feedback will help shape the next five years of economic development in Salmon Arm.

Local business voices matter. Please take the survey and help us plan around what businesses actually need.
