gh to take out for a quiet ride in the fields if we chose. They are raised in large grassy fields with creeks and rolling hills while sharing the beautiful country side with the friendly moose, deer and elk who frequenty pass through.

It was so wonderful to see the Musical Ride perform yesterday at Chilliwack Heritage Park.

Watching the show brought up so many feelings—nostalgia, pride and bittersweet memories.

I’m so incredibly proud to have been a part of (some of) these horses’ journeys, and it’s amazing to see them performing all these years later.

It was extra special that I could give some TLC to my favourite horse, Officer. So many wonderful memories with him.

If you ever have the chance to see the Musical Ride, I highly recommend it. Until next time 🤍

Day 4, and the first time he fully walked all the way in ✨

Unfortunately, Sly doesn’t have a positive association with the horse trailer. Most of his rides have involved moving—leaving behind everything he knows: his friends, his routine, and his “home.”

He hasn’t stayed at one facility for over a year since leaving my family’s farm. I feel awful about it, even though I know each move had its reasons. I’m so looking forward to stability in our future, and hopefully, trailer rides that mean bringing him right back home after a fun trip 🤍

It is so wonderful having these trails on property. Not only to mix up the routine for the horses, but for all the items and obstacles hidden within the trails ✨

Looking forward to cooler weather, less mosquitoes (Sly is very sensitive) and more time on these trails to master all the obstacles ✨

Thank you to my wonderful friend Morgan, from Ascend Horsemanship, for coming out and being our eyes on the ground. She hasn’t seen Sly in several months and it was so lovely to hear her kind and reassuring words 🤍

Yesterday was so incredibly helpful and I’m looking forward to practicing our homework and our next lesson ✨🤍

Morgan is such an amazing horsewoman, and as a coach myself, I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a kind, compassionate, and talented trainer ✨

It was another hot and smoky day. Apple bobbing is a fun way to encourage drinking and create mental stimulation. I’d love to try this with a bigger trough; putting his favourite snacks in 🤍

Sly also has access to organic sage tea to help support with the smoke. Hopefully fall brings rain and unfavourable weather for all the fires currently burning.

Sly absolutely loves the minis, Thunder and Lotto. It was very heart warming to see how gentle he was with them 🤍

These two ponies are more than just cute faces, they also pull carts. It is so much fun and makes me want to own a little one in the future 🤍

Today, I’m showing you how I taught Sly to transition his backup from the ground to the saddle.

First, we established a solid vocal cue on the ground. To transition that feeling to the saddle, I had a friend stand exactly where I would on the ground. I don’t have video of this part, but while they stood there, I applied gentle pressure on the neck rope while giving the vocal cue ‘back’.

Once he understood that connection, we tried it completely on our own. Lastly, we phased out the voice command entirely, leaving us with a responsive backup using just the neck rope!

I am honestly so impressed by how intelligent Sly is. He constantly encourages me to grow and evolve as a trainer.

I’m also using my neck rope from The Economical Equestrian, Candice Funk. This isn’t sponsored, but I love her work and highly recommend giving her a follow!

Yesterday my heart completely melted at the barn 🤍 Murphy and Sly are back together at the same facility. Hearing Sly’s soft nickers the moment he saw her again was everything.
