All I could do was laugh at myself when I first seen this post cuz, YUP!!! Thats truly spot on from loving and caring PSW’s which we all deserve to have in our senior years. But not always the case 😞😞😞

Our Story …

I have been asked by Coni to share my experience regarding my late husband’s nursing and supportive care that she provided for the last almost two years of his life.
Bill arrived at RiverGardens, Stratford for rehabilitation as per the recommendation of a wonderful physiotherapist. Bill was 88 at the time and had already succumbed to a hospital bed with nursing care 5 times a week in our home. It was this physiotherapist’s opinion that just because Bill was old, did not mean he was disabled. That was a revelation for both Bill and me.
The physiotherapist explained that with some one-on-one assistance, along with an active social environment my husband could enjoy a better life, better health, and become independent again.
We chose RiverGardens Retirement Home for this initiative and Coni became Bill’s personal support worker/fitness monitor/motivator and a wonderful connection for conversation and laughter.
Within two months Bill was independent in self care, working out daily on the exercise bicycle, treadmill, weights, and walking exercises, supported and monitored by Coni. She became not only his guide but also provided friendship. The kindness, understanding and patience Coni provided to Bill, helped him enjoy the last almost two years of his life.
Bill decided to remain at RiverGardens. It was close to our home, so visiting with him daily was not an issue, as well we would travel to our cottage for 3–5-night stays and he would also spend occasional days at our home as well could spend an occasional night at RiverGardens. His choice to remain at RiverGardens turned out to be a perfect life, for both him and me.
He remained independent until just two weeks prior to his death at the age of 89. The bond Bill had with Coni was one of the best supports I have ever seen in the health care profession. Coni was the right person, at the right time, in the right place!
