So many women are taught to look for hot flashes as “the sign” of perimenopause.

But according to Andrea Donsky’s research shared in Nourishing Menopause, after surveying over 5,200 women, hot flashes came in at #10 on the list of most common symptoms.

The top reported symptoms were things like:

Fatigue, exhaustion, and feeling tired all the time
Brain fog
Sleep issues
Memory lapses or forgetfulness
Anxiety
Low libido
Lack of concentration
Joint pain
Lack of focus
Hot flashes

So if you are in your late 30s or 40s and noticing that your energy, sleep, mood, memory, focus, cycle, digestion, or body feels different…

You are not being dramatic.

Your body may be communicating through more than one system.

Perimenopause is a natural biological transition, but that does not mean we have to white-knuckle our way through it.

This is a season where we need to know our bodies differently.

Understand what is shifting.
Support our nutrition.
Support our stress response.
Support our sleep.
Support our digestion.
Support our mind and body through the transition and beyond.

Not from fear.

From awareness.

Because aging well is not about ignoring what your body is saying.

It is about learning how to support it well.

And honestly, I think that is also how we become a better example for our daughters.

If this feels familiar, send me a message. You do not have to figure it all out alone.

Eating less is not the same as eating in a way that supports your body.

And in your 40s, that difference matters.

So many women have been taught that healthy eating means cutting back, eating lighter, skipping meals, or trying to be “good” all day.

But if you are running on coffee, skipping breakfast, eating light all day, craving sugar at night, feeling tired, struggling with workouts, or feeling like what used to work isn’t working anymore…

The answer may not be to eat less.

Your body needs more consistent support.

More protein.
More fibre.
More steady meals.
More minerals.
More food that helps support your energy, blood sugar, digestion, hormones, and recovery.

Healthy eating should help you feel more supported, not more restricted.

It is about learning how to support your body so you can actually feel better in it.

If this feels familiar, send me a message and I’ll share a few simple places to start.

Working with a nutritionist isn’t just being told what to eat.

Here are 5 things I wish more people knew:

1️⃣ We don’t just tell you what to eat.

Yes, food matters, but we are also looking at stress, sleep, hormones, digestion, energy, cravings, routines, and what is actually happening in your life.

Food is one piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture.

2️⃣ Your symptoms are not something to ignore.

Digestive upset, cycle changes, mood swings, low energy, bloating, cravings… these are not just random annoyances.

Your body is communicating with you.

3️⃣ Symptoms are clues.

I know it can be tempting to jump to pills, supplements, or quick fixes, but most of the time your body is asking us to look deeper.

What is driving the symptom in the first place?

4️⃣ Health is not one-size-fits-all.

What works for one person may not work for another.

Your nutrition, habits, routines, and support need to match your body and your life.

5️⃣ There is no perfect meal plan.

The goal is not to follow someone else’s perfect diet.

The goal is to build something sustainable that supports your body without making your life feel smaller.

Balance over restriction.
Support over control.
Real life over perfection.

In your 20s, you could work out on fumes.

In your 40s, food comes first.

Here’s why:

Your body needs fuel to create energy, recover, build strength, regulate blood sugar, and actually adapt from the workout.

Because movement doesn’t happen in isolation.

It happens inside a body that may already be carrying stress, poor sleep, digestion changes, blood sugar dips, and not quite enough fuel to get through the day feeling steady.

So if you’re fitting in the workout, trying to eat clean, relying on coffee to bridge the gaps, and still feeling like your energy is all over the place later…

this is where I’d zoom out.

Because sometimes the question isn’t:

“Am I working hard enough?”

It’s:

“Did I actually give my body enough to work with?”

Food before movement matters.
Food after movement matters.
Consistent meals matter.
Recovery matters.

And in your 40s, your body may not be as forgiving when those pieces are missing.

That’s the bigger picture I help women look at inside The Balanced Body Project.

Not just, “Are you eating healthy?”

But, “Is your body actually being supported?”

If this sounds familiar, message me SUPPORT and I’ll tell you where I’d start.

“It’s amazing how building around my life has improved my life.”

A client sent me this from her dream trip, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

This is what personalized nutrition support is supposed to do.

Not take over your life.

Not give you a plan that only works when everything is calm, controlled, and predictable.

But help you build simple, supportive habits that can come with you into real life.

Travel.
Busy seasons.
Stressful weeks.
Meals out.
Different routines.
Dream trips.

For this client, the small shifts we made helped her feel more supported, less overwhelmed, and gave her the capacity to walk more in 36 hours than she has in months.

That’s not a small thing.

Because the goal was never perfection.

The goal was support.

More energy to participate.
More trust in her body.
More freedom to enjoy the life in front of her.

That’s the work. 🫶🏻

I used to call coffee “breakfast” on days like this.

Because when the day already felt full before it even started, food was the first thing to get pushed back.

Coffee first.
Food maybe.
Water eventually.
Then wondering why the afternoon felt like a crash landing.

This is not about having a perfect morning routine.

It’s about remembering that your body is coming with you into the full day ahead.

Feed it before you ask it to carry everything

I received my brand photos today and I’m feeling so grateful.

You can have a “healthy” routine and still feel like something isn’t working.

You’re eating well.
You’re moving your body.
You’re trying to sleep.
You’re taking the supplements.
You’re doing the things.

But your energy still crashes.
Your digestion still feels unpredictable.
Your cravings still feel louder than they “should.”
Your mood feels harder to regulate.
Your body doesn’t respond the way it used to.

This is where a generic plan falls short.

Because the answer is not always to do more.

Sometimes the better question is:

What is your body actually asking for right now?

That’s the work we do inside my 12-week program.

We look at your food, digestion, stress, sleep, energy, cravings, recovery, and daily patterns so we can start making sense of what your body is communicating.

Then we build simple, sustainable shifts from there.

Not a complete life overhaul.
Not a pile of random wellness rules.
Not another plan that only works when life is perfect.

A personalized strategy for the season your body is actually in.

Your body changed.
Your strategy should too.

If this sounds like the kind of support you’ve been craving, my 12-week program is where we begin.

06/02/2026

The wellness industry wants you to believe “MORE” is better.

More supplements.
More rules.
More tracking.
More protocols.

More things to manage.

And don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely a time and place for deeper support.

But complexity and effectiveness are NOT the same thing.

For many women, the most supportive shifts are often the ones that feel almost TOO simple.

eating enough
a balanced meal
adding protein and fibre
chewing your food
creating meal rhythms your real life can actually hold

NOT FLASHY

But repeatable.

And repeatable is where consistency gets built.

That’s why I always come back to the foundations first.

Because your body doesn’t need a plan that only works when life is perfect.

It needs support you can actually come back to.
