Axiom Group and VBKOM are proud to serve as global technical partners to Vedanta Group–Konkola Copper Mines plc (KCM), supporting the continued advancement of one of the world’s Tier 1 copper operations on Zambia’s Copperbelt.
During the initial stages of the project, our integrated team successfully validated historical drill-hole data, updated and refined the resource and reserve models, and established a strong technical foundation for an iterative drill-hole optimization program.
As our collaboration with KCM has progressed, the scope has expanded significantly and now includes a high-resolution active 3D seismic survey, magnetic surveys, AI-driven drill-target optimization, and predictive hydrogeological and geotechnical modelling.
With an anticipated mine life extending another 50 years and the high-grade copper resources at KCM, these operations have the potential to remain an important source of copper as global demand continues to grow.
Just as importantly, the project is creating meaningful opportunities for local professionals and labourers. Building local capacity, developing skills, and creating long-term employment opportunities within the surrounding communities are strongly supported and encouraged by KCM management and are an important part of the project’s success.
Axiom’s CEO and VP of Corporate Development were on site earlier this month and came away extremely impressed by both the scale of the KCM operations and, more importantly, the people behind them. The commitment to safety, strong culture, collaboration, and progressive thinking was apparent throughout the organization.
It is exciting to see the combined Axiom, VBKOM, and KCM teams bringing together people, technology, data, and technical expertise to support the continued development and optimization of this world-class copper asset.
