🌱💃 From a seed of a dream to a growing community of culture and connection.

We’re excited to welcome Muyu Dance to the Cultural Stage at the Nutrien Fireworks Festival!

“Muyu” means seed in the Kichwa language of Ecuador — symbolizing life, roots, growth, and resilience. Through dance, Muyu celebrates ancestral traditions, community, Mother Nature, and the cultural roots carried with them to Canada.

Their performance, “Andes of Ecuador – Sowing Time,” takes audiences on a journey through Kichwa Andean dance, featuring stories of Mama Killa, sowing time, the harvest, and Inti Raymi — a celebration honouring Mother Earth and Father Sun.

What began as a small dream in 2024 has grown into a vibrant dance community performing across Saskatoon and at festivals throughout Saskatchewan, while creating opportunities for people of all ages to experience Ecuadorian, Peruvian, and Colombian culture.

Today, we mark 150 years since the signing of Treaty 6, on August 23, 1876. The Treaty includes four of STC’s member communities: Mistawasis Nêhiyawak, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Muskoday First Nation and One Arrow First Nation.

The vision of the Chiefs who signed Treaty 6, and their commitment to the well-being and future of their people, remain as important today as they were 150 years ago.

As we mark this milestone, we encourage everyone to reflect on what it means to honour the Treaties and live up to the commitments set down all those years ago.

STC remains committed to advancing the vision of our Chiefs and working in the spirit of the Treaty relationship to create a better quality of life for everyone in Treaty 6 Territory. 🧡
