One of the most powerful lessons we can give our children
is that their worth isn’t measured by how quietly they shrink
or how little they need.
It’s in the courage to name what matters to them —
to speak their hopes, their needs, their boundaries
without apology or fear of being “too much.”
Asking is an act of self-belief.
It tells the world, I matter enough to take up space here.
But the other half of self-worth
is knowing when to step back with dignity
when the answer isn’t what they hoped for.
Walking away isn’t failure.
It’s self-respect.
It’s the understanding that someone else’s “no”
doesn’t diminish who they are
or what they deserve.
Both abilities matter —
the courage to ask
and the strength to walk away —
because together they create a person
who knows their value
and honours it in practice.
May our children grow up knowing
that their voice has value,
their needs have weight,
and their worth is never up for negotiation.
And may they carry one more truth as they grow:
that the same worth they claim for themselves
is worth recognising in others too.
That balance is where real strength lives. ❤️
