A few weekends ago we had the pleasure of being a part of sweet little golf fundraiser, YXE Golf Day - Heart and Stroke Foundation Fundraiser.

Our friends Darcy and Tara put on this golf fundraiser every year in memory of Darcy’s dad, Dan with everything raised going to Heart & Stroke. Put on by friends, with a bunch of friends golfing in it, and we got to hang out at our sponsored hole and terrorize everyone with a game. Any golfer rolling up to Hole 9 had to roll the dice and whichever number they rolled was the club they had to use FOR THE ENTIRE HOLE… well, until they putt. Alternatively, they could donate $10 to the fundraiser and roll again.

I don’t want to say the dice were rigged (they weren’t) but one group rolled for a pitching wedge FIVE TIMES and in turn donating $40 just to get stuck with the same club anyways.

There were bingo cards with activities to complete and things to look for while golfing, a silent auction, a prize raffle, and a supper to raise money. We donated a 40” TV and a $450 course voucher to their raffle to help get that number higher and in the end they raised $6,439.00!

Great cause, great people, beautiful day.

Hack The Planet! Hackers presented by Black Atlas Training

Join us 7pm October 1st at The Broadway Theatre for a screening of the 1995 movie Hackers, timed to International Ethical Hacker's Day.

This one holds a special place in my heart. Back in the 1900s (😂) after watching this movie I began obsessively playing around in the basement with our family’s first DOS computer, floppy discs and scripting, IRC chat rooms, and eventually to being a programmer. It led to turning down a job with Google (not so long story, feel free to ask sometime if you want), to starting my own business, and I ALMOST even went back to school in the US at one point for computer forensics. Heck, my personal usernames for almost everything I have is derived from the handles I started with back in the day. This movie had A LOT to do with who I am today.

So please, come celebrate, join me at our screening, and I want your best 90s gear! It's going to be a blast. Good movie, great company, and the best excuse to get away from your own screen for a bit (ironically, to watch a movie about screens). If only we had some Jolt cola...
