Today we take note of the longest day of our year. Spring slips into summer and our great cycle of life continues. Throughout the world for all history our people and those in all lands have noted the great significance of this day. Observances may differ but today marks an experience we all share.

On this National Indigenous Peoples Day we continue to acknowledge and support those committed to reconciliation, education, growth, and opportunity. We recognise the strength and resilience of Indigenous People. Whether it is a Sundance, the Sami Giehta Nieida in Northern Europe, the Night Sun Ceremony of the Hopi, Wiisagendiyang, Sunka Wakan Oyate, or Pow Wow that our people have used to mark this day as long as remembered. We are reminded that we are connected. To earth, sun, and all those around us. Together we celebrate, together we grow, together we find prosperity and strength.

Coming Soon! Bernice and the Georgian Bay Gold (2023).
Author Jessica Outram is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario.

It's the summer of 1914. Eight-year-old Bernice lives with her family in a lighthouse on Georgian Bay. One day Bernice wakes up to find a stranger named Tom Thomson sleeping in their living room. When she overhears him talk about gold on a nearby island, Bernice is determined to find it. Inspired by her beloved Mémèr’s stories of their Métis family’s adventures and hardships, Bernice takes the treasure map the stranger left behind and sets out in a rowboat with nothing more than her two dogs for company and the dream of changing her family’s fortunes forever.
