Natural light can completely change how a masonry sample reads.
Indoors, artificial lighting can flatten the colour, soften contrast, and make the texture and variation between pieces harder to see. This can make a sample appear more uniform than it may look once it’s installed outside.
Take that same sample into natural light and you’ll start to notice the warmer and cooler tones, stronger contrast, surface texture, shadow lines, and subtle variation that give the stone its character. The direction of the light can also affect how deep the joints and surface details appear throughout the day.
That’s why it’s worth viewing masonry samples outdoors, ideally at different times of day and alongside the surrounding materials, before making a final decision. Natural light gives you a more accurate sense of how the colour, texture, and overall blend will look in its intended setting.
